Calzaghe V Jones

yeah 3 right predictions on the trot
What ????????
well it means that i have predicted the last three fights that there has been a thread on
Yep that is pretty impressive. You must know your boxing so do you think that Joe has dodged a fair few bullets in his career? by fighting guys that are a little past their sell by date? and hardly ever fighting outside th UK.I cant say hes a great fighter....good yes.

I dont think he has dodged anyone in his career, i think you can see hopkins isnt past it with the way he took apart pavlik i also think that kessler will rule at super mid for a long time

Joe was a class apart from Roy Jones. At times Joe was toying with him and he could do what he want when he wanted. I thought it was going to be a great fight when Joe went down in the first but after Jones got cut he didn't want to know and Joe ran away with it. Well done Joe and if this is the end he has been 1 of the best fighters in the last 10 years up there with Manny Paquiao , Morrales , Barrea and Floyd Mayweather world class. If he fights one more time Chad Dawson or even Carl Froch as a fair well fight would be great.

For those not giving Joe credit so be it but what makes a fighter a great fighter. Look at the US the fighters fighting over there they all are not world class fighters, but for some people you have to prove yourself over there. Then again you have American fighters who hardly ever fight outside the US as either champion or challenger. So if Joe had most of his defences in the UK so be it he still won those fights its like Mayweather he had all his title fights in the US does that mean he wasn't a World Class fighter as well?

I missed the first round due to being asleep by 5am (why did it start so late when the count down clock on the Setanta site said 9 hours 45 mins to go at 6pm?) but assuming it was 10-8 Jones with the knock down I had it level after 6 rounds, but the 7th onwards were all won by Joe. The commentator had it Joe by 3 points, the US channel had it Joe by 7, I had it Joe by 6 but all three Judges had it Joe by 9. It seemed very generous, I thought it would have been anybody's before the gash in the 7th.

If you were to go by workrate alone apart from the first and maybe the second round Joe out worked Jones is which I think the judges judged the fight. With different judges it could of been different but in the end it was the right result at the end of the fight so you cant fault the judges much in my eyes. I think it was closer than what they scored but not by much.

i thought he won every round bar the first, would like to see him fight chad dawson in cardiff as a farewell or maybe a re-match with hopkins, it must be awfully tempting to him to go after rocky marcianos record i think hes only three fights short

yeah but hes the only unbeaten out there in light heavy, you got to admit if you was 3 short of rockys record you would be so tempted, maybe tarver then or drop back to super mid

If I was going for the record I would fight complete no hopers.

If I was going for the money there would be a re-match with Hopkins/Jones.

Dawson could be tricky and will be 'Left' alone.

I hope he retires.

fair play to him, I really thought Jones would be too much for him, apart from the first round Jones never won another, even before the cut he was getting out boxed which is something I never thought I would say .. But hats off to Joe .. deserves everything that comes his way now ..

I think his head is telling him to retire, but his heart saying just like Rocky one more round .. lol .. Now I think Joe fights with his heart as much as his head, so the decision will be a tough one, but I'm sure he'll go for that last fight at MS .. 80k people, Jones or B-Hop are the only fights out there .. Dawson is a no hoper, overhyped and will not prove anything ..

dawson is far from a no hoper he just hasnt got the pulling power at the moment

Calzaghe doesn't need Dawson, Dawson DOES need Calzaghe. Calzaghe is boxing in a different league entirely to Dawson in terms of the calibre of opponent he can make fights with. If Calzaghe continues to fight after his win against Jones Jr then he'll fight a huge marque name or soemone he can beat with ease (more likely the former). It's not worth it for him to fight someone like Chad Dawson, it's the same reason, prior to his defeat to Hopkins, he wouldn't have touched Pavlik. Not enough 'upside' to the matchup. Now he can steer clear of Pavlik because he lost to Hopkins so his stock has dropped.
