Cambridge Analytica

I can’t really make heads or tales of this. Politics is something that I have absolutely no interest in (obviously I should pay more attention) but what does this mean moving forward?

As if politics was ever clean before this lot turned up?

I’m not condoning their behaviour but come on folk, doing anything and everything to win, especially in American politics is hardly new or news.

As for Vote Leave somehow manipulating the EU ref result via social media? Seriously? The age group active on social media channels voted overwhelmingly to remain so it’s a no from me lol.

Yep, psyops/propoganda would never be used for nefarious means....

People influencing an election through stealing personal data, especially billionaires, linked to other countries and governments, is abhorrent.

Missed it but read some summaries and articles.

Over the last few months I have read a few articles about it. The article in The Observer on Sunday was a particularly good read.

It would not surprise me if a relationship between Leave.EU and CA is soon established. Next, the link between Farage and the Russian government. :)

Farage, Leave.EU and Cambridge Analytica's relationship has been known about for a year.

Farage is good friends with Paul Mercer, owner of Cambridge Analytica.

VoteLeave spent over half it's official budget with AggregateIQ, which is pretty much a spin-off of Cambridge Analytica, being run by friends of guy "who brought data and micro-targeting [individualised political messages] to Cambridge Analytica."

It looks pretty likely Brexit was something of a test run for them.

Just to add to this, Bannon was on the (still cryptic) board of Cambridge Analytica. All of his companies—Breitbart, his production company Glittering Steel (which promoted the Uranium One conspiracy theory in their movie Clinton Cash)— shared a U.S. address with Cambridge.

Rupert Murdoch allowed C.A to operate out of one News International buildings.

Shadowy people and billionaires hijacking elections yet some seem to be ok with it.

Andy Wigmore, head of Vote Leave which ran some of the biggest ad campaigns on social media.

Thanks for the link. I did read that article a while ago. I was aware of the suggestions about Farage but nothing meaty in relation to his links with the Russians.

The Guardian have done a fine job in the face of legal threats and doors being slammed in their face.

Fascinating stuff. The role of social media, its impact and the evident abuse by CA and others to manipulate people emotionally will have to be addressed. The other side is the willingness of people to be emotionally manipulated despite facts and evidence which is more problematic. Part of this seems to be a desire to be seen as a ‘victim’ or indentify with a grouping that claims to be ‘victimised’ despite there being no objective evidence to support this. The pathology behind this thinking is also fascinating and exploited by groups like CA who openly reject factual reasoning in favour of emotional reasoning.
Nail head.
