New Arcade Fire album is out soon I think. I'd highly recommend "Funeral" and "The Suburbs" by them.

ok I just spent 5 minutes listening to Funeral by them

Its pretty boring mate, I mean 5 minutes of listening to the same 3 note bass riff and constant drumbeat (sequenced by a machine) , Lyrically it didnt seem to offer much, so all pretty dull and stuff that I feel Ive heard a thousand times before, I want something a bit more adventurous, I mean Radiohead were kind of adventurous and had some good ideas and they built on things that Floyd & The Beatles did.......thats the kind of thing Im after..

ok mate Im off out now but I'll have a listen later today, cheers :)

I'd say Mew but they haven't done anything since 09. And whilst they do top the charts in Scandanavia, they aren't exactly well known over here, which is a shame.

takes about a minute to get going, don't give up too soon ;)

Fair enough, most of the songs on Funeral are a bit samey, t'was their first album. The drums aren't sequenced by a machine. The Suburbs would be more to your liking. Please Please Me, With the Beatles and Beatles for Sale could be critiscised for the same thing despite my love of them.

I've been looking for current bands similar to the Beatles/Floyd but it's not an easy thing to find.

I share your previous tastes in music and a desire for current stuff, so try the following:

North Atlantic Oscillation

Elbow

Daft Punk

Vintage Trouble

Steven Wilson

Magneticman

Hope you find some interesting stuff in that lot. I know Steven Wilson is a bit of a cheat but his Raven That refused to sing is my album of the century so far!

I disagree, for instance for its time this song was quite astonishing for a young songwriter, changes in mode & tempo throughout, beautifully crafted melodic song. It showed a maturity and sincerity that belied a young 'pop' artist.

I couldn't hold Lennon/McCartney in higher esteem I listen to them almost every day. I just mean that on first hearing plenty of the songs that aren't covers on their first 3 albums will sound similar without going into detail. Arcade Fire's Win Butler is a fantastic songwriter though. Giving 5 minutes to their first album and writing them off is a bit OTT. Their drumming and bass playing doesn't get much better apart from certain songs but the melody and diversity of their music is spectacular. Lyrically fantastic too.
