Can Sergio Reach Ballon d'or Heights

He's already at that level and has been for a few years, just needs to stay injury free to get the recognition he deserves. Sadly, he's living in a time when probably the 2 greatest players ever are at their peak so whilst Ronaldo and Messi are around he won't be winning it.

He *could* win it, even with those two around, *if* we won the CL, league, maybe a domestic cup, with him at the forefront of it all. Winning the CL is the big one really. Do that as our main man, probably competitions top goal scorer or close too, and he'll rake in a lot of votes. Despite him not getting the recognition right now I imagine he's a very well liked and admired player.

He has not been at that level in previous seasons except for brief periods because of injury.

He's there now though

He has the best Premiership goal record per minute in Premiership history by some distance, and that's ahead of players like Shearer, Henry and Van Nistelrooj. He is the best striker ever to play in the Premiership. The goals prove it. Consider that for much of the time he was compromised by injury - see Zabaleta's comments

There's 2 problems as far as I see it with Aguero winning the Ballon d'or:-

1 - He plays for Manchester City. If he played for Real Madrid, or Barcelona, or someone like that his chances would be far greater. It's club snobbery, but it exists.

2 - He's unfortunately playing football in the same era as what could very well be the 2 best footballers of all time. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are simply exceptional players, and will always be in people's minds for the Ballon d'or. Look at some of the winners from the mid to early 2000's, you've got Cannavaro, Shevchenko, Nedved, Owen etc, Aguero in his current form stands up against all of those very well indeed. It's when you look at Ronaldo and Messi that you see the difference.

Here's the goalscoring stats for all 3 over the last 4.5 seasons (4 previous seasons, plus this season so far).

Ronaldo - 245 goals (including 60 goals in 1 season)

Messi - 244 goals (including a world record 73 goals in 1 season)

Aguero - 121 goals (including 30 in 1 season).

Aguero's record is extremely good indeed (it's up there with other world class strikers, Ibrahimovic has scored 140 goals in that period), but it pales into insignificance when you look at the record of those other 2.

He never win it while he's at City. It's rare that a barca or Madrid player won't win it because of many many reason I'm sure your all aware of

Yes but it is down to the club's progression in the Champions League as well as the Premier League.
