Can We As City Fans Learn...

I'm afraid that becoming arrogant is almost impossible to prevent. I'm sure there were many a rag who told their son, "we were shit yesteryear, be more humble." But there's only so much one can do before the intense success and competitiveness becomes something akin to arrogance. I mean, come on, we already expect to beat certain teams. Not out of self-righteousness... just out of logic. Our clubs ambitions have affected ours and now we have a higher bar to meet. All of this is going to create thought processes, actions and lines of dialogue that will be construed exactly how we see the Dippers and Rags.

And once we're ten-twelve years into this domination of England, (something I think will likely happen) then the media will 'can't beat us/join us' and it will feel all the more self-righteous. And as the generations get old and grey, we will be left with few blues who really knew how it felt to be City, and was extra thankful for our success. The babyblues of today will have grown up with nothing but "AGUEERRROOOO!!!" Nothing but 3 league titles every 6 years. It just won't be the same. How can it be?

Just the way it goes, I'm afraid. Gosh, I hope I'm wrong.

I think you're right mate. Being humble and magnanimous is one thing, but when you see a star studded side like ours struggle against so called 'lesser' opposition, then it's hard not to be expectant. Even harder to take when you know we have underperformed in games.

As we grow remorselessly into one of the world's most powerful and successful clubs, can we, as City fans, learn how to handle ourselves with class and dignity?

Despite all the triumphs that will be coming our way over the years, can we avoid becoming arrogant gits like all the ones we have faced ourselves for decades?

Or would we all rather be loud mouthed, abnoxious twats, taking the piss out of the Scum and Scouse fans et al and gloat non stop for a decade or so?

Just wondering...

JJ

The scum and the scousers can, as has always been the way, fuck off. The only others i have that attitude towards are fucking tottenham.
The problem we have now is supporters of all the other clubs hate us to varying degrees. It's difficult to mAINtain our dignity when every jumped up plastic fan is having a pop/,

There is a saying: Lose like a man and win like a gentleman.

For years, Man Utd fans did not win like a gentleman as they were sneering, sarcastic and nasty. They were especially like this towards us City fans.

To quote those famous City fans the Gallagher brothers, I Hope I Think I Know.......that we will win like gentlemen, with grace and good humour. Except towards Man Utd fans, who are due some payback lol.

They've been calling us all that shit for years mate, and they still sing the "Citeh are a 'massive' club" song. Having said that, the match going rags I know locally are generally ok, it's the ubiquitous rag Sky s/c holders that come from anywhere except Manchester that are the real wankers!

Oh I know they give it at the game and sing their nursery rhymes etc but then so do we, for me that's just banter. I just don't feel the hatred from people I come across in every day life. If anything my hatred for them over the years will have come across much worse!

I just read in here about "my rag mate texted me this and my rag mate texted me that" and I don't get any of that. Maybe it stops once you get past a certain age. Are most people in their 20's who get this stuff and been brought up on social media?

I was talking to an Everton fan 2 days after we just beat them and he was very complimentary, said we were the better team over the two legs and deserved to go through. He wasn't bitter at all and he is a ST holder and has been since I have known him. Reality seems far removed from some of the stuff you read on forums. That's why I was wondering if it is worse if you live in Manchester.

i can not go on Saturday, but my son is taking a mate. I asked him, that should we lose, to stay at the end and clap the Leicester lads off the field. Their achievement this season has been a breath of fresh air and we can show that as supporters we have not forgot that until recently we were in a similar place to them i.e. expected to struggle for survival. I hope the majority of blues will do likewise.... apart from those who sod off ten minutes early whatever the score ;-)

Well that rules 15000 out then.
