Can We Use A 3 Man Midfield?

I could be wrong but I certainly think we will in the CL.

And despite what someone mentioned above, Aguero on current form (I know he had no preseason) should not be anything like an automatic starter.

Id like to see us try a 3 man midfield. In our games so far we have been wide open in the middle.

Garcia playing with Ferna and Yaya just ahead could work. Busquets performs a similar role for Barca and Spain and has the same amount of "pace" as Garcia.

Rodwell as an alternative to Garcia and Milner as an alternative to Ferna. We could also use Nasri as an alternative to yaya in this system and give him a chance more centrally.

We dont necessarily have to lose a forward either.

Hart
Zaba Kompany Nastasic Clichy

Garcia
Yaya Ferna

Navas Aguero Silva

3 games in the Yaya and Fernadhino paternership needs time to gel. By the end of month see how well they are getting on. Yaya was always slow in getting back into position so nothing new there we all know that. Away from home yes we could well play a 3 man midfield in European games but in games in England were we are expected to go out and win games away from home maybe not.

Definitely think a 3 man midfield is the way forward for us. There's many different combinations we could play depending on the opposition and whether we are at home/away. Could easily play Silva/Nasri as the 3rd man in the midfield and not have to sacrifice an attacker.

Somebody like Milner or Rodwell would fit in nicely with 3 box to box midfielders, if they developed an understanding we could have 2/3 of them making regular late runs into the box and the opposition wouldn't be able to keep track of them because they could easily switch in and out between the 3.

And then you can have somebody like Garcia sitting deeper as a holding player against better teams, provides more cover that we will definitely need and gives Yaya/Ferna a little bit more licence to get forward.

Would like to see a few of these options tried out, and we probably will eventually, pellegrini was known to change his formations regularly in spain but it's 3 games in for now and players still need to bed themselves into the team. I trust Pellegrini to get it right eventually.

Been thinking about this alot recently, it wuld also probably bring the best out of Silva. There is no doubt we are going to score goals with the players we have, especially if we can keep the confidence up. Only problem is, we would hava to play Jovetic/Aguero on the left to accommodate Negredo/Dzeko through the middle.

Meaning a midfield 3 of either:

Yaya, Fern & Silva (1st Choice)
Yaya, Ferna & Rodwell
Yaya, Ferna & Nasri
Yaya, Milner & Silva
Garcia, Ferna & Yaya
Garcia, Ferna & Silva
Etc....

And then a front 3 of either:

Aguero, Negredo & Navas (1st choice)
Jovetic, Negredo, Navas
Aguero, Negredo & Milner
Aguero, Dzeko & Navas
Aguero, Dzeko & Milner
Jovetic, Dzeko & Navas
Jovetic, Dzeko & Milner
Etc...

You get the idea, i think this is the way we will go, but i just hope Aguero can play off the left, much like messi used to and Neymar does now. Obviusly Aguero can play through the middle and Jovetic on the left aswell to give us another option of a smaller, quicker CF. (like Messi at barca).

This also means we havent sacrificed an attacker as such either. EDIT - just to add into this, i do think we can still play with 2 CM's in home games too or if we are going for the win towards the end in any game !

I think what you're trying to say is that we're missing Gareth Barry

I think we should give it more than 3 games to start making judgements. We have made major changes to our playing style and made changes to our personnel. Its bound to take some time to iron out the problems but we will get there.

Aguero has been playing more on the left than Silva has over the 3 games so far this season. Newcastle didn't notice it as much but Cardiff it was very noticeable as we were in that corner of the ground second half as city were attacking the Cardiff goal. Kun was always the man making himself available for clichy infront of him. Carried on against Hull too, he was the man more often than not down the line for kolarov when playing it from the back which allowed Silva to roam more. I'm confident he can do just as good of a job out there than as the spearhead.
