Captaincy and personality

Yaya often dictates the pace of the game, in pre season there was a game where we had a brilliant first half, he came on as a second half sub and everyone started walking... He also intimidates referee's with his size and the way he runs at them and is in their face, Komps is far more controlled in his conversations with officials. I just don't think Goalies should be captain, yes I know they see more of the game than anyone else but in disputes they are not available to decide who should take penalties/free kicks etc or to calm things down with officials. Just not sure who we have that is a 90 minute man in the majority of the games to take on the role.

Joe would love to be captain and is one of the few, in my opinion, who would consider it an honour. Unfortunately I just don't think goalkeepers can have the same effect on the team as an outfield player. Without Kompany we are clearly lacking leadership on the field but we also appear to be short in the desire, energy and fight departments. None of our star players fit the captaincy bill and Zabaleta, who would, can't get into the team, simply by process of elimination Otamendi gets my vote.

Hart is probably the best suited, charater-wise. But, it certainly doesn't help that he's usually isolated from the action. Him aside, we need someone who has the balls and respect to have a go at every player including Yaya...not sure who that is other than Vinny or Zaba.

Not good enough to set an example for the rest of the team, still has the same lazy/uncareful passing issues.
I disagree. My order would be Vinny, Joe, Aleks. Zaba would've been vice a couple of years ago, but I feel that now he's never in the team he's going to struggle to ever get back into it and being captain would distract from him trying to get anywhere near back to his best. Kolarov is a great candidate for captain and he would step up to the task very capably I reckon, but we're not gonna see it because MP panders to Yaya at every opportunity and you can see why as he would throw his toys out of the pram as soon as anything went against him...

Fact is some players can't be captained and we have loads! Seriously, ask yourself just how can players such as Toure, Silva, KDB and Aguero be inspired to go that bit further by players they consider not to be of their own standard?

The best captain this club has had in recent years, and as a captain I'm talking about a player who was not only 100% in everything he did but also as good as any player we've ever had, was Carlos Tevez!

Love him or hate him. he at times, by force of personality and individual brilliance dragged that team to places it had never previously been!

What we could have done for a Tevez last night as I had to endure watching 11 idle City players watch 10 hard working Everton players run down the clock with keep ball.

Otamendi looks the most likely to inspire some life into half the corpses that currently start games for us, but beyond that I'm struggling.

It's ok Messi is vice captain for Barcelona so think he will do it next seasonal

I think Hart should have it, been here the longest. Shows more passion in his head and shoulders adverts than Yaya has ever.

Its abit ironic really, the club worked hard to get these difficult personalities out of the club, Tevez, Mancini etc. and there the type of players/personnel we're missing.
Agreed, great point.

Kolarov seems most like a captain when kompany is out.

Your kidding right, might look hard but the guy never looks like he gives a toss if he makes a mistake. Why make a below average full back your captain anyway ?
