Whats the score with these places?
Basically I need a rear door handle for a Citroen (its not the actual handle either - its the "trim" to the side of the handle!)
I can get one on Ebay for £20 and no doubt Citroen will charge a hell of a lot more!
There are loads of sites on the net when you put in the part you want and then have to register with all your details etc. Anyone done this and what are the prices like?

What about local ones - do you just turn up and give details of what you want, they check if they have that car available for spares, and do they then go and get it? Do you go back the next day or something or is it a quick turn around?

Any recommendations for these places?

Cheers

I worked in a salvage yard just after leaving school whilst waiting for college to start and if i remember correctly, people just turned up, looked around themselves and either took the part off themselves or asked for it to be done.

Then they took the part to the little shed/office and paid for it.

I used them loads when i first started driving. You can ring them up before and ask if they have got the bit you need, generally give you a price they make up on the spot and want paying in cash

Go in the yard and tell them you are looking for a door handle , They will direct you to the donor car ( if they have one ) .

When you get there remove the part yourself and stick it in your pocket .

Go back to the office and tell them the part you wanted was not there

Go home , fit your door handle and then put your feet up and have a beer

Sorted

Await men with pitbull and baseball bates to come round and dry rape you into oblivion

I think I would just stick with your original plan and get the one off ebay.

Scrappies generally have a minimum charge of £20 for most things anyway, plus you've got to go the hassle of trawling round the yards to find one with a suitable car and removing the part yourself. Save yourself all the bother with a few clicks of your mouse and wait for the part to arrive on your doormat!

Europarts for 1st port of call or SGF.
i used to laugh at punters saving a quid on a bulb at the same time ruining jeans and trainers and probably the car interior, with the mixture of oil, battery acid, grease and powdered glass and rottweiler shit that is the average breakers yard's base.
