From next season as well as getting a bye in the second round, teams competing in Europe won’t be able to be drawn against each other in the third round.

This is because the third round will be played over the same consecutive two week period as a round of European group games. So this will ensure that all teams are free to play on one week or the other.

Much as I love the LC, it was the first and for quite awhile the only thing I thought I'd ever see us win but, with all the games to play teams in Europe (certainly in the CL) shouldn't be in this compy anymore.

I disagree. Early rounds are when we see youngsters get minutes.

Would obviously be perfect. But I don’t think the fact we didn’t make the League Cup semis and finally winning the Champions League in the same season were totally unconnected.

Keeping the Euro teams out for another round means there is more chance of them reaching the semis and final thus boosting the broadcast revenue for the EFL.
However most of those clubs would sooner finish in the top four so it's hardly an attractive proposition.
