is this not the most ridiculous rule in football. let them celebrate! I've long thought this but after seeing Silva's brilliant goal and the joy of him celebrating with the removal of his shirt, I've just plain had enough. And then the ref coming over the card him he almost looks embarrased to do so.

Meanwhile the player couldn't give a fook he laughs at the booking.

Hell one poor tackle and he'd be sent off for 2 yellow's.

This rule was brought in because FIFA had got loads of complaints from sponsors, when a player score this is the most prominent time for shirt sponsors, so when they rip it off no advertising, so to placate the money men, who said why should we pay vast amounts of money to sponsor a shirt when you can't see it because it's been taken off. FIFA are fearful of losing money hence it becoming a yellow card offence.

But it's ok to lift the front of your shirt up to show a shirt underneath? Covering the sponsor while not being carded.

I once was slaughtered by an assessor as i only gave a yellow card to someone in a Sunday morning Cup Final who mooned at the opposition bench after scoring the winner in the 90th minute. He had taken dogs abuse all day from the bench and i did think it was quite funny at the time.

However, the assessor told me that there was women and children present and he should have been sent off. I'm sure none of those present had ever seen a pair of arse cheeks before.

So yes i think it is ridiculous to show a yellow for removal of shirts. But, if the referee did not do it his mark from the assessor would immediatly be hammered and his position as a Premier League ref would be in jeopardy.

ah I see. I never thought about the sponsor angle. I guess this makes sense.

I have to agree, by far the most retarded rule in football. The letter of the law doesn't factor in the raw emotion people feel when they score a goal. I can understand players getting yellow cards for inciting a crowd reaction ie in front of opposing fans etc.

My dad is an old school, black and white type of fella. He reckons they should be fined 10,000 for taking off their shirt, what a cock!

I agree that it is a stupid rule but for fooks sake the players know they are goin to get booked so why keep doing it?? Somewhere down the line they will be looking at a one match ban!!! Mancini must drill this into them and fine them extra if it's a needless booking.
