Hi guys,

I'm considering a complete about-turn in my career, and have a real passion for computer programming.
I've already completed and passed a National Diploma in Computer Networking and System Security but wish to develop this further, with a speciality in programming.

Can anyone advise what kind of course would be necessary to enable me to enter this field, and what employers are looking for?

I've done some research and have read that computer science is the way to go, can anyone confirm this?
Here is the course I've looked at for reference: <a class="postlink" href="http://www2.mmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2013/9966/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www2.mmu.ac.uk/study/undergradua ... 2013/9966/</a>

Any advice would be appreciated, cheers blues!

Good look mate..

Are you drunk buzzer? Thanks for the reply anyhow!

Never trust anyone from Milton Keynes who wears corduroys ....

Milton Keynes is shit. Forced to work there during the week.

Programming is not the be all and all any more in the IT world - most of that work has been off-shored these days to India and other far flung places where they only pay a pittance.

Hope that helps!

Yes I think a computer science course is the best way to go.
I did a business computing course and going into the real
world I think more programming would have been more
beneficial. I would look into php for giving you an
Insight into web design and MSSQL for reporting purposes
I also think these would give you a good base to go into Uni with.

Good luck

I'll second the bit about off-shoring the programming work...India, Poland, wherever they can get two-bob Billies to churn the work out - usually around one third of UK rates. Anyways, for what it's worth as long as you give the big IT boys a swerve when looking for a job (it's this lot - Fujitsu, HP, IBM etc that farm the work out overseas) then you should be ok.
