Don't know if this has been posted (didn't want to start a new thread), but thought it was amusing.
The FA must fine or ban Gary Neville if their Respect campaign is to retain any credibility
If you can't take it, don't dish it out. Gary Neville would do well to remember that maxim, following his pathetic one-fingered gesture towards Carlos Tevez this week.
Neville is like Marmite - you either love him or hate him, yet the Manchester United skipper did himself no favours by giving Tevez the finger, an ill-advised reaction which was subsequently caught on camera.
To recap, Neville had come out on the eve of the game and claimed United were right not to bend to the financial demands of Tevez and his advisers last summer, because the striker was not worth the money.
So when Tevez lashed in a thumping penalty to equalise against United, his mocking gesture to Neville to shut his mouth was entirely understandable in the circumstances.
It wasn't offensive, it wasn't inflammatory, just a sarcastic reminder to the outspoken Neville that if you're going to open your mouth, you'd better be sure what you're saying stacks up.
Neville's churlish response was something you would expect from a teenager in a school playground, not from the captain of the world's biggest football club, and revealed the ageing defender's distinct lack of class, as well as brains.
I hope the FA charge Neville for his sly, offensive gesture, particularly as he has a warning hanging over him from his gloating celebration of United's dramatic late winner against City at Old Trafford last September.
If the FA's much-derided Respect campaign has any remaining credibility, then the FA must charge Neville and hit him with a fine or a suspension for his unsporting conduct.
Mind you, given Neville's humiliating form of late in what will surely prove his last season, banning him from playing might be the kindest thing the FA could do to United.
