Caroline Aherne

Watched some royle family today still just as funny after all these years.
My lad made me smile with his its just like goggle box observation.

Watched her years ago at the old Frog as Sister Mary Immaculate (which became Mrs. Merton). Supremely talented despite an almost pathological shyness, coupled with an Irish working class Catholic inferiority complex. There is an interview on Sky where she talks with Craig (Cash) about how The Royle Family was written. She's almost embarrassed about how lauded it has become. For fans of pathos / dark and light the scenes where Denise goes into labour in the bathroom with her dad,but more especially the scene where Nana dies, are up there with the best British comedy scenes ever written.

"Are you sure it wasn't just a really big piss?"

Incredibly funny woman, whether it be The fast Show (Scorchio) The Royle Family or Mrs Merton I thought she was hilarious.
Very sad loss to the world of comedy.

Did you ever see the series "Dossa and Joe" Bill ?
Set in Sydney and filmed around 2002.
It seems to have been forgotten about compared to her other stuff, but some good laughs in it when you understood the characters fully.
I first saw Caroline at a Comedy Club in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester called "The Buzz". It must have been 1989'ish. She was playing a character called 'Mitzi Goldberg' who was a Jewish Country & Western singer in a band. It was original and funny but she didn't seem to develop this personage to any great extent ?
'Sister Mary Immaculate', (an Irish Nun), was her breakthrough and hilarious.
I hope new people continue to discover her, a one-off and brilliant with it.
