Celtic game - strict security measures announced (page 34)

Irrespective of their nationality, singing pro IRA anti English songs is not acceptable in this day and age.

They need to grow up and move on.

The media should be coming down on these Neanderthals.

What anti English songs were sang last night? Are you referring to brits out?

Fields of Athenry divides opinion about wether its a rebel song or not. The writer says it isnt and Id agree with him. The others are rebel songs

Amhran na bhFiann (The Soldier's Song) is my national anthem. The same for many of Celtic fans be they first generation Irish or later generation Irish.

So you agree those songs were sang then.

I am indeed aware of that Peggy. However, there is nothing wrong with Celtic fans flying it.
On flags, spotted some city fans with an israel one. Is there some connection or was it an attempt to wind up Celtic fans? Genuine question
Genuine question for you why would an Israel flag offend a Scottish person genuinely no idea mate ?

Tim, is you name Tim?

Or is this another none religious thing that really is religious.

I think you are trying to to defend the indefensible...................Manchester City was, is and always will be a welcoming secular club to all and disrespect and intolerence is not tolerated which is pretty much the problem last night.

Your fans were disrespectful, probably not surprising considering allegiences a large minority of you have.

Best you tootle off to some other forum because your not really welcome here.

I didnt hear any racist bile but then again, I couldnt understand most of what they were saying. perhaps you will enlightenment me what they were singing.

We had a ten minute version of Go on home British soldiers with lyrics like British bastards leave us alone, we had Dublin in the Green, outside the ground we had chants of IRA and up the RA. I could go on but you get the picture. I was in block 308 and lots of families just left at half time in disgust. We had groups of Celtic fans agressively goading people throughout the match. I went to the game with a Celtic fan and he was ashamed. None of this, of course, will be reported by our one-dimensional media. I was born and bred in Manchester and am first generation Irish. I fully understand the history. Not all Celtic fans are low-lifes but they have a lot of "plastic paddies" who wrap themselves in the flag. Like the Rangers fans who trashed our city they bring disgrace to Scotland.

It's more than just roots though Tanze. It's heritage, culture. More than I can explain.
I get that people of other clubs don't see that or like it but hey that's life.

It's bollocks is what it is you're a Scottish team in a Scottish league in Scotland, dress it up how you want but heritage and culture don't change the facts

As a fan of both clubs, the Celtic fans songbook last night seemed more IRA than most games. Probably because they were playing in England and most of them thought they'd be freeing Ireland by singing as many rebel songs as possible. On TV, I could easily hear Go On Home British Soldiers, The IRA Will Set You Free, Long Kesh, Pearse Jordan, Get the Brits Out Now etc etc.
Its alright for the Celtic fan on the last page to claim their songs aren't sectarian. This is extremely arguable at least, but they are definitely offensive/distasteful to some people in Britain.

Its the equivalent of a few thousand fans going to a match in Nice in a few years and singing about ISIS

Song book aside, the way the Celtic fans get behind their team is a lesson to us all.

Well said. What was depressing to me was that the Celtic fans at the first match seemed to get behind the team properly without as much of the politics.

I do not know why city fans would have Isreal flags, and, why they would offend anybody :-)

At the end of the day glorifying people who indiscriminately murder women and children without a second thought sums up exactly what Celtic are all about can't understand for the life of me what this has to do with football on your way home spare a thought for the likes of Tim parry and his family and all the other innocent victims then see it it still feels right to worship these scumbags

Agreed.
Loved it up in Glasgow, had a great time in the city & at the ground. Used to live in Dublin and always found Celtic fans there were mostly sound.
But not impressed with all the rebel songs last night.

We had our city bombed twice by the IRA. If Celtic fans think it's OK to sing about the good old RA boys when in Manchester and put it down to being proud of your culture etc then your deceiving yourselves.
If we play you again down here pls just bring the great atmosphere from the 1st leg and leave the other shit for when you're playing your orange pals

Genuine question for you why would an Israel flag offend a Scottish person genuinely no idea mate ?

Not necessarily a Scottish or an Irish person but the widespread coverage Celtic's Palestinian protest reveived and the subsequent fundraising I was just wondering.
