Celtic game - strict security measures announced (page 34)

I know a lady who will not go to our home games in this competition after being caught up in a melee involving city fans and away supporters who had been allocated tickets slap bang in the middle of 105. This at previous champions league games. She wrote into to the club to complain And did not even get a response.

Fast forward to last night, in exactly the same block, you have exactly the same situation. It is indefensible and The club cannot say they do not know about this problem.

I would like to ask the club what exactly the role of the steward is in maintaining supporters safety/what the stewards are being briefed about before games like this. Is sitting there hands in pockets allowing away fans to stand up in the home end, arms out, bellowing out songs acceptable? According to our stewards, it is.
I sit in 105 and it's the same every CL game. Obviously depending on the fans they can be sound or ****s. But it feels like it's always on the verge of kicking off all game somewhere around us as someone is always acting like a prick and goading the City fans over something.

I emailed the club about it and they said (they rang me) there's nowt they could do about it as the tickets are given out by UEFA. They didn't seem to care.

Agreed.
Loved it up in Glasgow, had a great time in the city & at the ground. Used to live in Dublin and always found Celtic fans there were mostly sound.
But not impressed with all the rebel songs last night.

We had our city bombed twice by the IRA. If Celtic fans think it's OK to sing about the good old RA boys when in Manchester and put it down to being proud of your culture etc then your deceiving yourselves.
If we play you again down here pls just bring the great atmosphere from the 1st leg and leave the other shit for when you're playing your orange pals

Is the second one Warrington?
The Rebs cause constant debate among our own fans too. Lots want them gone altogether from football, should be kept for supporters buses or friendly pubs. Lots think we've always sang them why should we stop.
Regarding last night I did mention to my brother that we seemed to be airing more than usual. Given it was Manchester and the history you e mentioned I was quite uneasy about that.

Not Warrington. Manchester bombing in 1992, then the big one in 1996

Tim, is you name Tim?

Or is this another none religious thing that really is religious.

I think you are trying to to defend the indefensible...................Manchester City was, is and always will be a welcoming secular club to all and disrespect and intolerence is not tolerated which is pretty much the problem last night.

Your fans were disrespectful, probably not surprising considering allegiences a large minority of you have.

Best you tootle off to some other forum because your not really welcome here.

They're songs. Words. As distasteful as you may find them.
And seriously? Get off your high horse. I've been to Manchester derbies at both old Trafford and the etihad. I've seen the respect City fans show Munich.

The club should (they won't), withhold UEFAs ticket allocation on safety grounds if they know this is happening.

The sad thing is, some people will react violently when being goaded and get banned as a result of it. If the club and the stewards did their job, these situations wouldn't arise and there's no issue.

We had a ten minute version of Go on home British soldiers with lyrics like British bastards leave us alone, we had Dublin in the Green, outside the ground we had chants of IRA and up the RA. I could go on but you get the picture. I was in block 308 and lots of families just left at half time in disgust. We had groups of Celtic fans agressively goading people throughout the match. I went to the game with a Celtic fan and he was ashamed. None of this, of course, will be reported by our one-dimensional media. I was born and bred in Manchester and am first generation Irish. I fully understand the history. Not all Celtic fans are low-lifes but they have a lot of "plastic paddies" who wrap themselves in the flag. Like the Rangers fans who trashed our city they bring disgrace to Scotland.
Good post!

I know a Celtic fan and he thinks they're this group of angels loved by all other sets of fans around Europe and never understands why other Scottish fans despise them and after last night I can see why they're hated.

Why would this be done to wind up Celtic fans, weren't a couple of Celtic players who started the game last night Israeli?
I am indeed aware of that Peggy. However, there is nothing wrong with Celtic fans flying it.
On flags, spotted some city fans with an israel one. Is there some connection or was it an attempt to wind up Celtic fans? Genuine question

There were two IRA bombs in Manchester in 1992 (same morning) and two in 1996 (same day), there were two Warri bombings in 1993 (same day) making it six bombings was to our locality. Two little boys were killed and your fans thinks it's fair game to sing IRA songs in our ground...go and fuck yourselves!

They really do believe that they are loved the world over, let me putvyourcpicturecof minds at rest Celtic your fans are despised in England ...

I saw one we fly the TRI colour because we were formed by Irish men. .

Well Millwall were formed by Scotsmen I don't see the solitaire flying at tge Den or the fans singing flower of Scotland.

I can't understand why last night's disgrace has had virtually no media coverage. I can't stand bigotry and racism. The England fans who used to chant about the RAF in German cities which saw thousands die in World War 2; the Rangers fans who celebrate killing catholics; and the Celtic fans who spend all day in our city and get a warm welcome but abuse our hospitality by telling us how much they hate us. They are all cut from the same cloth. Irish people are some of the nicest people you can meet anywhere. Most decent Scots want nothing to do with the Old Firm dinosaurs. They can protest as much as they want but Celtic fans are amongst the worse I have seen in 50 years of watching City. There is no place for politics in football.
