That comment comparing his players to Honda Civics or whatever.
If Brian Clough had said that in 1978 it would be lauded as an example of wit and wisdom from a bit of a character.
Now the media are all over it, shrieking their disapproval.

O'Neill was on the radio yesterday tipping Hearts for the league and saying this Celtic team isn't very good basically.

Surely thats up there with the Honda Civic comments if the players are told it.

Cloughie would have called the Austin Maestros

I don't think Eamon Dunphy is a fan of the new Celtic manager

"They think they’re Brian Clough. They’re not. Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane are two lads who used to matter. Now they’re sitting on TV panels, scowling at the world, acting like they’ve still got the magic. They haven’t," said Dunphy in the Irish Daily Star. "They’ve got the hump. Permanent sour faces. All bite, no wit.

"The way they went after new Brentford coach Keith Andrews this summer was nasty. It was Petty and spiteful. Why? Because the lad’s done well for himself. Keith gets the job with the west London club – a massive opportunity – and what do the two old boys do? They slag him off.

"O’Neill sneered at his career. Pathetic. This isn’t about football, it’s about insecurity. They can’t stand the idea that someone younger, sharper and hungrier is doing what they used to do.

"O’Neill owes football everything. The game made him rich. The least he could do is show a bit of class, wish the young lad well. But no — he’s still sulking about criticism from eight years ago. Eight years! It’s time to move on, Martin, the rest of us certainly have."

I reckon they might not need to be told it. Unless there’s no media up there, and there was last weekend when I was in Edinburgh.

I have met Martin O'Neill. He loves City as a club and is one of the least bigoted people I have ever met. He is the complete opposite in fact.
He is probably THE most bigoted manager that mob have employed and I include Lennon in that.

What evidence do you base that on? I have had a long conversation with him about the Celtic/Rangers sectarian divide. He totally abhors it. He was happy to play for Northern Ireland for starters. To even compare him with someone like Lennon is ridiculous.

Dunphy is one of the most bitter and twisted hate-filled pundits to appear on any TV channel. He has made relentless toxic comments about City for years.

He lived locally to me and I know many people who have had far more than one conversation with him. All agree he is most certainly a traditional’ Celtic man.

It was MoN who grabbed an embarrassed Neil Lennon and dragged him around Ibrox punching the air in some freak show after Rangers has pumped them

Ok you are entitltled to your view. All I can say is that I worked in Scotland for seven years and got to know him. He told me personally he hated the "old firm sectarian divide." He was concerned that his famly should not be affected by the religious divide as he had known growing up. No doubt he may have got carried away in some matches but I am certain as I can be that he is not prejudiced. In fact I once had a similar conversation with Graeme Souness who shares almost identical views as O'Neill. I take people as I find them not how other people describe them.

Hardly makes him a bigot
Celebrating with a player who was taking dogs abuse

Strangely I don’t even find Lennon as bigoted either
Happy to call himself British on countless occasions
I can see why he would be viewed as unlikeable, but not bigoted or sectarian.

You should have asked Souness his views on ONeill
