I actually haven't been! I spent a long time in South America and everyone that came down through central america raved about Guatemala and I've wanted to go ever since.

You could always just get a flight to Bogota and get messy in Colombia. Bit of Caribbean, bit of jungle, bit of city and bit of Pacific!

yeh sounds good would you just stay in hostels when you got over there?how do you travel all over the place ? backpacking a bit dubious as i havent done out like that before but i went to new york on my own and that was ok but just think its a bit rougher in central america or is it like anywhere else??just keep ya whits about ya ? any good sites or books i could look at to give me a bit off an insight thanks?

Mexico City is a great city lived there for many years just got to keep your wits about you like any other city and the pyramids of Teotihuacan are just outside the City also get to the Estadio Azteca well worth a visit. Costa Rica more for the enviromental type of tourist not much happening in San Jose. Chiapas in Mexico is well worth a visit as well.

thanks was talking to a homeless man watching the england match the other night and he was raving about it saying it was great the women are lovely
they love the british accent (dont know how true that is) he said he had family in belize or something he also said he could get 20 fags and a beer for about 70 pence plus said the drugs were great if your into that sort of thing and theres plenty to see and do i was looking at flights worked out about 600 pounds return and the hostels in mexico city work out about 20 us dollars a night want to do something while im not working at the minute and a couple of my mates are up for it should be a bgood experience imo

Try www.hostels.com for accomodation....i did a round the world trip and booked most places thro there....didn't do central america tho so can't help you

Get hold of a lonely planet or summat - always a good place to start. I'd imagine Mexico is quite easy to get round if you can't speak any spanish, though I met people in south america who couldn't speak a word....they were OK, it was just a gamble what turned up on their plate for dinner each night!

As far as crime goes, I was in various bits of africa and south america for over a year and the only thing that got nicked was my mp3 player on the bus on the way to the airport to get my plane home! Lost a few things mind, but that doesn't count.

Don't bowl about with an iphone in your hands, wallet in the other evisu jeans and a shiny watch on and you'll be fine. Not saying there is no crime but if you're savvy it's easily avoided.

Hostels are the way forward really - you'll get to / be forced to meet a lot more people than if you were staying in hotels and that's part of the fun.
