For about six months Kompany and Demichelis were good together but that didn't last.

Nedum was average
Dunne was great but his time was up (he could have stayed to be a squad player for a year or two though)
Ben Haim was bobbins
Kolo was panic stations at times, missing from the defensive line at others or class - inconsistent
Kompany was magnificent but is just a walking injury now and even when fit hasn't played well for two years
Boateng was scared of his own shadow and it was clear he didn't want to be with us
Lescott was brilliant for us, just as good and better than Kompany at times, won POTS at West Brom after leaving us and then has just faded away now
Boyata was average
Savic was average
Nastasic looked just like John Stones now, class at times, average at others - inconsistent
Demichelis started poorly, was the best defender at the club for a year then ended poorly
Rekik was alright, didn't see much of him
Mangala had a handful of good games but was clearly not good enough through his inconsistency and erraticness and was a poor bit of business
Otamendi puts in some brilliant tackles at times and has good games but has very erratic games where he dives in too much and gets sucked in too much - inconsistent
Stones is just like Nastasic, class at times, average at others - inconsistent

It's about time we got it right and for me Virgil van Dijk looks like the one for me, he's got everything! Partner him with Stones and let's stick with them for a few years and have them form a proper partnership together.

A bit more perseverance with Savic, Boateng, Nastasic or even Mangala wouldn't have hurt.

Especially when Stones and Otamendi are our only consistently available CBs.
 
Otamendi has a lot of good qualities, it just seems like once or twice per game he has a brain fart that always comes back to bite us.
