Centre back options

Van Dijk is the obvious candidate
  • Excellent defender.
  • Excellent on the ball.
  • Excellent passer.
  • Not slow.
  • His height and power would give us a big boost in both boxes on set pieces.
  • Used to the PL
  • Used to playing on the left side of a CB pairing
  • Decent age.
  • Would annoy LFC fans

It's not stupid at all.

He is a very good player, especially as a defensive screen and would also be great cover for Fernandinho.

I say ridiculous as if I was asked the question of the cuff my first reaction would be fuck no, because he's an annoying twat, but thinking about it would be a good short term option imho.

Think its a very good call, if Chelsea see themselves out of the race now then might be on. Some height and hes a dirty bastard...could do with him today.

Wouldn't have him a centre half, but I think he'd do a job sat in front of the back four. Good player to alternate with Fern and like you say a bit of a dirty fucker and adds a bit of height. He's also a decent enough footballer and is a good passer, which could appeal to Pep.
 
Our man Sammy Lee saying on twitter that we'll go after a centerback in January after Vinny's injury. Sure seems like Pep has had enough given his comments.
 
if we planned on buying a CB next summer and are moving those plans up into January, would rather just pay the premium for VDV than a stop-gap like Inigo who would have to learn the league. Not my money ;)
 
With all the work Pep has Mangala doing, watch him keep him.

Kouliably, Hernandez, Lyon youth CB, Laporte, needed.
 
It is pointless wasting money in January (even with Vinny not being reliable) Mangala is decent cover until the end of the season.

By the time the window opens, the Big Wigs might calculate that we have enough points on the board and enough cover (Stones back) not to warrant making a big money move. Whether that defence could go the distance in the Champions League remains to be seen, but unless we can pick someone up cheap or on loan, then I think we'll soldier on with what we have.
 
Ideal solution is to rely on Mangala and Tosin until Stones return.

If they fail, let Walker fill it for a while.
