Moving forward,Merlin will have to accept a deeper role where he may have to put in a bit of graft now that KDB is arguably the numero uno no.10..No chance on the wings with Marlos,G.Jesus,RS7,Roberts,Sané coming through..Can see Pep playing him deeper cause of his ability on the ball this season..alongside Fernandinho & Gundogan.

Completely agree, Pep admires KDB and certainly played a part in bringing him to City. He will build the team around him and like you said can't see him being played on the wing. KDB's best position is #10, scores and creates goals at will.

The problem is that Silva loves to wander around the whole pitch and Pep wants his players to hold their positions. Hopefully Silva adapts and goes from a world class CAM to a world class CM.

I found it interesting that in the first 2 friendlies Yaya didn't actually played there. He always had a more advanced role playing in the Iniesta or Thiago position. Pep played Garcia in that position when Yaya was on the pitch. It may be Gundogan and Garcia being his back up or Pep may not play that deep lying playmaker role in some games and go with a more robust midfield 3 with Fernando Fernandinho and Delph.

Individuals have genetic limits to their aerobic capacity just as they do to speed etc. Just because someone does not run as much does not mean they are 'unfit 'in terms of as a proportion to what they are capable of. It may well mean they just haven't got the ability to run as far for as long however much they are trained.

Very true...... Gareth Barry had best aerobic capacity at the club when he was here, but was hardly likely to trouble anyone for speed.
