CFG | Academy | EDS in & out season 2024/25

Seeing the likes of McAtee leave isn’t going to fill the Eds lads with confidence, nor Alleyne and Simpson Pusey missing out on the club World Cup. I’ve not seen much press about departures but you couldn’t blame lads to think opportunity is better elsewhere and follow Jacob Wrights example
We just had Nico break through last season. We have 3 local lads in the squad whicproves that you can make it if you are good enough.

The arse has 2 player. Red scouse wants to ship all their talent from the youth team Quansah, Elliot and Doak.

The only team with some academy players getting look ins are Chelsea. They are 1 or 2 levels below us.

I'd have said the opposite re. McAtee, they know what they need to do if they want to play for us, something that McAtee has not done. Foden, Bobb, O'Reilly and Lewis have all shown them what's required.

Pep was right on changing his mind on taking a load of youth, we'd never have seen them play. I'd presume that there's hastily organised summer pre-season games for the youngsters.

What they do know is that regardless of if you make it as a permanent 1st team squad player here, you'll get the best education around at City, which is why we have no trouble attracting them.

Agree education is the best but opportunity to play regular football questionable.

I could be wrong but even Bobb, Oreilly, Lewis will probably spend more times warming the bench than playing meaningful games next season. Bar is just so high.

The lads we attract is at least in part because of the huge salary we offer 17 year olds on first pro contract. The problem that creates is they can’t afford to leave.

The home grown lesser paid lads however such as Wright are in a much better position to move away and develop.

I would wager he will have a better career as a result than some or all of the hyped kids as a result

Do we have any sell on % on Alex Robertson. He is generating a lot interest in the Championship?

Alex Robertson's transfer to Cardiff City from Manchester City includes a 25% sell-on clause for Manchester City.

Nice, had recollection his initial fee was quite low especially considering he had a good loan the previous year and him being a full international

Only my opinion but I think selling James McAtee is a mistake. In my opinion he was head and shoulders above most of the England under 21 team footballing wise. If he can add a bit more power he is a v good player for the next 8 years or so

He doesn’t want to sign a new contract so its cash in time but I’m sure we will have options on him.

He could but we already have very good players, world class ones and honestly I don't see it with McAtee

He's got potential but more than Foden, Bobb, Cherki, Savinho who hes gonna be competing with? Not for me

He needs first team football, selling him fpr £20+mil with a buy back clause and sell on clause seems good for all parties

If people are moaning about letting Rogers going what will they be like in a couple of years after McAtee goes? I agreed getting rid of Rogers and stand by it. I will be sorry to see James leave.

I'm not convinced that McAtee is ever going to be quite good enough to be a regular at City. Now is the time to sell him -- both sides will benefit. He was given ample time to really stake his claim and obviously didn't quite do it. 34 total games for City's first side is nothing to sneeze at though.

I'm a little curious about the sell-on fee for Gittens. We'd heard repeatedly there was one and then some journo the other day said there wasn't, so hopefully that gets cleared up. Missing out on a decent wedge if there truly wasn't one beyond the typical solidarity fee percentage (will still get a few million).

I agree. I think in the long term he will be a top player and better than some of the players we’ve signed. talent wise other than foden I think he’s the most naturally talented player we have produced.

Why not keep him and develop that talent?

Gittens was only here for 2 years and left at 16 as a free agent as he had no pro contract, going to an English club would have netted us a bit more, but the solidarity fees between two different leagues is low. Reading could end up with more than us. I've thought that alleged sell-on seemed odd from the first time of hearing it.

Because he's pushing 23 years old, only has 12 months left on his contract and by the sounds of it, wants to leave.

He may be a late bloomer but I don't think he's going to be one that got away.

He left at 18 I think but agree, we won’t get much

If they are not careful, I imagine a good number of the EDS are coming to the end of their current deals, therefore, if they don't extend, could a good number of them leave on a free next season? Surely the club would want to cover itself on that?

U18 lads would have at least 2 years on current deals i expect, even more possibly for those particularly well thought of
