If there is no sell on clause, why would we get any money?
If there is a sell on, what has it to do with how long he's been at Dortmund?

Of course i dont know, but what i do know is that the standard deal is generally 4 years which consists of 1 year scholar + a 3 year professional deal - that is fact. This would put the majority of last years FA youth cup winning squad who this year won PL2 in their final year. One or two names in the press have already been linked with a move away with articles suggesting the aforementioned contract situation is correct, Simpson Pussey arguably being the most noteworthy name linked with a move away. Therefore what i do know is that unless they sign new deals many of them are heading towards free transfer status!!

Ok, well, for the record, Simpson Pudsey last contract was 3 July 2023. I've no doubt he will leave. There's no chance he will play for us again. He wants to play first team football and we can't force him to sign another contract, nor do I see a world where he will , but we will command a fee.

quite a bit of movement at younger levels according to rumours. Striker from Newcastle coming in -Isaac Mcgilvary going to chelsea.

No U21 player is going to hang around for a year in order to get a "free" next year. We would still be due training solidarity payments regardless, which isn't peanuts if within the same association.

We'll get some solidarity payments as will Reading regardless of clauses. How long he was at Dortmund is immaterial (and I don't think Longsight meant to imply that), unless of course the sell-on clause (which may not exist anyway) specified a time frame. Lavia's buyback for instance couldn't be activated the following summer by us.

I imagine some will be sold or go out on loan otherwise we will end up with a glut of EDS players. Looking at those who were involved last year you've got Samuel, Simpson Pusey, Alleyne, Naylor, Alpha Ruprecht, Oboavoduo, Jayden Heskey, Okeke, Lawrence, & players coming back from injury such as Muir, Carrington & Dada-Mascoll. I've not included Grey or Mubama as there is already rumours that Grey might go to Sunderland & Mubama is interesting Ipswich. Then you have got the 2nd year scholars from last year who will automatically move up to the EDS such as Henderson-Hall, Noble, Thomas, Parker, Mukasa, McFarlane. Also players who still qualify for another year at U18 level who are already to good to play another year at U18. I am thinking McAidoo, Heskey, Mfuni, Braitheaite. Possibly even Gorman who will be signing scholarship forms for next season. I just realised I've missed out Dunbar- McDonald & the holding midfield player we signed from Arsenal (can't remember his name). These 2 automatically move up to EDS. There maybe others I've forgotten about. How are you going to give game time to all these players.

Disappointed to hear we might lose Isaac-Mcgilvary. I am sure I heard somewhere that he is regarded as as bigger talent as Foden. Suppose we can't complain as we are getting players from other clubs academies.

I'm not a 100% on the finer points TBH, we would have got something when he first moved (and Reading twice I think) and there may be a point at which no further payments are made. I'd forgotten myself that he'd been 5 seasons at Dortmund now.

Seems to be an enormous amount of movement of young players this summer. Wonder whether it’s just the transfers we don’t normally hear about being publicised or a change of policy on our side.

I said in a previous post that we can hardly complain as we constantly recruit from other academies. I still can't stop feeling disappointed if he is as bigger talent as been rumoured. I know we are getting one of Chelsea's U15 kids in exchange. It's all a question of he is getting the best deal. If McGillvary is such a promising talent you would have thought City would have tried harder to convince him & his parents he would be best staying put. Maybe City did try hard. We don't know what goes on in the background.
 
If he is as good as I've heard then I would be amazed if we didn't try as hard as possible. However, for a variety of reasons he could look to move on. I would say usually this is mainly due to parental influence but in this case his father is a professional rugby league player who would surely know the pros and cons of sporting decisions.
