It also forces the home side to be a little negative in the first tie though because they know how costly an away goal can be, so it doesn't work both ways.

I personally think whoever scores most goes through, thats how football should work, why should you go through if you only draw?
Exactly mate.

It would be much worse without this rule and it wasn't introduced out of the arse but because away teams were not showing any signs of playing football.

If we win 0-2 tomorrow , City will win 2-3 on agg , so it wouldn't have mattered anyway if the away goal ruling was there or not, but I do get your point

Leverkusen didn't deserve anything, they played like Mourinho is their manager.
Yes of course. Every team should just attack all out and get beaten by the best team. Schmidt has done a great job there changing around a club with a poor mentality and had them a couple of pens away from knocking out the Spanish champions.

Other people are entitled to an opinion, you know. Why is every one of your posts
just to attack someone's opinion or argument.
My post are to discuss things. Hence why this is a discussion forum. I don't see the problem with discussing and defending your opinions. If you put forward an argument or statement then it's fine for someone else to disagree with it and give their reasons.

They didn't need to play all out football but after first game score they needed one goal to pretty much seal it. But they came to play 0:0 and didn't have any intentions to attack.
I only watched extra time, but their tactics got them pretty close to winning and they probably had the better keeper and penalty takers. Good management is making decisions to take your team through. Atletico are the better team with the better players, were big favourites and yet he took them so close.

I rate Schmidt and what he has done at Leverkusen. If they can remain top 4 then he has had a brilliant season.

1:o is wonderful score and it's just stupid to defend that in 2nd game. Atletico is not that much better than them and if they were bit positive scoring goal was almost certainly meaning winning the tie. They didn't even try.
Leverkusen's team is decent, but it's not that great. Their defence is very bad and Lars Bender is not very fit. I didn't see the match so you have a better idea of what happened through the first 90. I do see Leverkusen often and they are cut open a lot when they attack.

Last season lost 5-0 at home to Manchester United.

EDIT
How many Leverkusen players do you think are on the level of Turan, Koke, Mandzukic, Miranda, Juanfran or Griezemann?

great fight from the gunners tbh.

They had a 24h rest advantage though : Monaco played Sunday evening while the Arse played the day before; that is a priceless advantage in any given game, let alone a CL knock-out round.
Monaco strolled to a win against a 10 man side on Friday, not Sunday, they have no reason to be tired. They just aren't very good. They went too negative and stopped countering properly, just as they did at 2-0 in the first leg, just inviting wave after wave of attack. They are much better when they actually try and score, but even then they are an average side

My bad, i understood they played against Lyon, but it was Marseilles instead who did.
It is a baffling performance from the Monaco team then. They set up just like any Maureen team would have, terrible display to produce at your own turf.
But the majority will say that just the result prevails : going through to the quarter finals.

Porto and Monaco in the quarters, who would have thought that at the start of the competition.
Well depends on the draw. Not seen much of Porto, but considering the group they were in and then getting Basel they don't have to be that great to make it. Monaco after selling Falcao and Rodriguez is a big surprise. This is a huge result for them.

Yes they choked today, but they had so many inexperienced kids play: Fabinho, Wallace, Martial and Kondogbia are so young. As one pundit famously said 'you can't win anything with kids.'

I don't know a whole lot about those players, but Monaco were shite tonight, and lacked any ambition, they were very lucky not to be over turned (tie wise) by a fairly average arsenal.
