Champions League Final 2026 | Sat 30th May | Paris Saint-Germain v Arsenal

Never picked up as much an anti-English vibe for a CL final as I did yesterday for this one based on what I saw at my local boozer.

They have definitely become more unpopular in recent seasons. I think their online personas being the principal cause.

I couldn’t in all good conscience say they haven’t had a great season, because winning the league makes it automatically so, but there is no way this team has earned the right to call itself great, and last night underlined that.

Pretty baffling people are making out they played really well. Can't fault their organisation, of course - from a setting up perspective, they were superb at denying space and chances. But if you have to park the bus (excuse the crude term) in a CL Final, how can you really say you're better than the opposition? PSG were toothless for a lot of the game but it's hard to play against low blocks and Arsenal were the ones doing the spoiling tactics and ruining the game.

They were scared to to toe to toe with the Parisians so how can they claim to be the superior team? They played like how you imagine a lower league team would at the Etihad in the early rounds of the FA Cup.

Chelsea did the same thing against Barcelona and Bayern in 2012 but at least they won.

I am just not a fan of these teams who sit back trying to claim superiority. Fair enough if you win, but you still weren't superior as by sitting back and defending for your lives you concede that the opposition has more about them and you must stifle them and hope for a lucky break.

I personally think they try to be both. They’re all going on about being the victims and going through years of pain.
I, myself had an Arsenal fan tell me they’d been through a lot of pain.
To me, someone who sat there and cried and wept in May 98 as we were relegated to fucking division two.
They think they’re the victims and everyone is against them but at the same time they are the biggest and best team in London.

I’d love to see them go through the hardships we’ve been through and then see how great their fanbase is.
 
Played not to lose.
But ran the risk of losing on pens.

It's the sort of thing I'd expect a lower league club to do in Carabao Cup; not a team that was 1 up against an out of sorts PSG.
 
Arteta is more Mourinho than Pep these days. Has updated the definition of boring, defensive, and ugly football. Happy Enrique won.

Arsenal aren't really better than City, just got a lot more favorable decisions in the league and capitalised on us starting badly after a short preseason and injuries, and Rodri missing a month in the run-in.

Literally half of them didn't turn up for a home League match against us 3 days after we had schooled them in a Wembley final.

Maybe you're right but their "on-field persona" being consistently nasty and snide yet also so shamelessly disingenuous in the face of censure, is what does it for most people I know.
 
All Arsenal do is cheat , time waste , fake injuries. I knew that a champions league ref wouldn’t let that slide after 30 minutes he got pissed off. It backfired on Arsenal the ref was so sick of cheating and time wasting that foul on their winger might’ve been given as a penalty but the ref was so sick of their bullshit he played on
