Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

Well,,totally gutted this morning sporting a very sore head..We have the PL and Carabao cup this season.. won endless trophies over the last few years...good heavens, wait until we actually have a real downturn because this season is far from that..just can not stand some of the raggish comments on here..a bloody disgrace..count your blessings boys..we never win at home and we never win away..where is that spirit ????
No you’re spot on. We should all be joyous at not turning up to one of the biggest games in our history. We have yet to win this competition and we blew a good chance at it ffs

I’m curious. In your view, who is the best manager in the world?

It's impossible to say that's why it's banded about too much. He has done well domestically in the league with the best backing staff and players. The cups he has done well but many teams unfortunately don't have them as a priority anymore.

In Europe he has been an abject failure for us.

How you rate him against others with different circumstances i do not know.i think he is a very good technical coach.

The best in the world? a genius?

Erm...

The disappointment and the annoyance was the manner in which we got beat, not the defeat which I can reluctantly accept….

Time to move on. Other things to focus on like life getting back to normal again. We lost a high level football match but there will be others.

I’m just wondering why some posters seem energised by what went on last night.

Very odd.
Do you have any proof of this? There is no guarantee we will be back in a CL final at all. Arrogance from some ppl on here

Just wanted the one chumps league cup and then wouldn’t be bothered if we didn’t play in it ever again….

Sometimes you just have to laugh. ‘Typical City’ yet again.

Reflections on the night before:

Hugely disappointing. Not that we got beaten, but the fact that we never ever looked like winning. In truth. I think one nil flattered us. Couldn’t really have complained had it been 3-0.

Not playing Ferna, not playing Sergio (who would have been fired up) were big selection mistakes. That said some players just didn’t get get going, others inc KdB and Stones seemed off the pace from the outset.

In contrast they were all at it from the first minute. We knew from the semi and the league match how quickly they countered and didn’t seem set up to stop that from happening.

Pep has to shoulder a lot of the blame but it’s not all his fault. Over the years, in many one off games City have got over the line. Today seemed like Wigan - something was just not right and evident from minute one. He should have changed things much earlier, way before half time. There was no enforcer on the pitch and our talisman wasted.

After all the effort to get there and the performances on the way, for the campaign to end in such a limp performance is very odd. It’s as though individually and collectively, from players to management they weren’t able to cope with the occasion.

There’s a reason why very few teams win their first CL final.

59 games played with a holding midfielder WTF was Pep thinking? 'How to fuck up a major football final for Dummies' wouldn't have come up with that selection last night!!! Devastated.

The decision beggars belief, it really does

Only way we would of won last night if we parked the bus because the way pep plays Tuchel has his number it’s easy for him to prepare for weeks before on how his team is going to close us down leave traps to hurt us..

Anyway been a great season…

It’s the what if over the selection that’s eating away at me this morning. I never for one second thought he’d fuck around with the team selection and that more than anything is what has got me. Can accept a bad performance and defeat, but the question mark over the weird fucking team selection will grate with me for a long time.

Pep had two choices last night. Play the PSG team or nullify Chelsea counter attacks and pack the defensive midfield and play a bore draw and hope to win on penalties or on a counter attack.

He did neither. I’m still bemused.

having thought about it a bit more, I agree, the team selection was strange and had an impact but would starting Fernandinho have made a big difference? I think you have to give credit to Chelsea, the tactics and their players performances.

Standout players for Chelsea:

Reece had Sterling in his pocket all night
Chilwell was all over Mahrez like glue
Kante played like a man possessed

their midfield pretty much man marked KDB and Foden out of the game.

Even if Fernandinho or Rodri would have started Chelsea would still have stuck to their game plan of killing out attacking play
and If we don’t have an attacking threat we look vulnerable.

Im not so sure one player would have made a huge difference last night.

Pep got it badly wrong last night but I wouldn't swap him for all the tea in Chorley.
I do get frustrated watching some of our fans with the "look where we were 20 odd years ago" statements.
That era of the clubs history has passed now, we never refer to look where we were when Trautmann was in net so why keep going back. We are one of the big boys now we should act like it.
Gallagher - pre match commenting to BT sport how he was surprised that Raz was in the team, he is in, so get behind him and support him.
I am gutted we got beat and am even more gutted we didn't play to our strengths because we clearly didn't dominate that game.
Congratulations to Chelsea, very well done to the tactically astute Tommy Tuchel , that performance from them was Mourino like but with a more likeable manager.
Enjoy the summer off my fellow English champions.

Yeah I agree. I just don’t think you can win the champions league playing peps way. Domestic competition it’s the best system as you beat the poorer sides 99% but we always struggle against teams who press us and counter with pace. If we are to win this we need to be more defensively set up imo

I
who has said Pep out?

don't put words into people's mouths.

Pep fucked up, big time, his post match interview was embarrassing.

I hope this week Khaldoon, Tixiki are having a serious talk about what happened, in my humble, it's required.
You were one of the ones slagging him off to fuck back in November. If you think Khaldoon and co are going to have a serious word with Pep you are seriously deluded. Fuck me.
