I found Turkish people charming yet very interested in your wallet. There’s touts everywhere trying to get you in to their business. They’re very patriotic too without it becoming jingoistic.

I was going to Baku, Azerbaijan with Wales and even after just buying a fridge magnet they kept me in their shop talking for five minutes. I was offered a drink etc.

I bought a Fenerbahce shirt as that’s who the barman followed. Walking through the airport they were patting their chest going “Fenerbahce! Good boy!”
