United’s problem is their delusion. It’s in every fibre of everyone of them; fans and ex-players alike.
United have had three good managers in their history and outside that they’ve just been a run-of-the-mill club like anyone else.
Their standing in football has diminished in the last ten years, and these ex-players and fans aren’t understanding or accepting it. They still think they’re prime 2008 Ferguson-United, but they’re more like Bamlett/O’Farrell-United.
All they do is moan about the state of the club with no realisation that nothing lasts forever and other clubs take over. No club has always been a top club always challenging and winning, not ever… and no club ever will be! Football is too changeable and there are too many big clubs in England where any of them can get the right owner and investment, with the right board, the right coaches and the right players, at the right time, and they will overtake you.
That’s how English football has always been; that’s how English football always will be.
These massive inquests that are always going on into United’s demise always fail to take in the bigger picture to understand that this isn’t a United problem, it’s just that United’s time is over. Just like Villa, Sunderland, and Everton’s time was over despite being the prime clubs of this country for so long, and there are other clubs who are entering their time at the top.
It’s pure delusion from them to think that they “should be” up at the top challenging just because “we’re Manchester United… Man United… Man U… Busby Babes… Class of 92… United”. That’s all in the past, and what United actually are now is just a solid top 7 club and that’s it. The sooner they accept that, the sooner all these inquests and tantrums would end.
United aren’t a title winning club anymore, just like they weren’t for 41 years between Magnall and Busby’s titles, and like they weren’t in the 26 years between Busby and Ferguson’s titles. Get used to it, it could be between 26-41 years again, it could be 30 years like Liverpool, 44 years like City, 61 years like Spurs, 92 years like Wednesday, or 95 years like Newcastle… who knows?
But they’ve got to start realising that it’s not going to be next season, or the one after that or the one after that…!

You are right on the money there,the only problem is the likes of Sky,BT and the rest of the media will continue to push the angle that they are still trophy challengers to City,Chelsea and the red scousers and the masses lap it until the penny drops halfway through the season..
