All reports said we didn't want to pay anything for him , we wanted hin for free and we would have offered him less money.I’m prepared to accept that City were in for Ronaldo, and that if we were in for him then we knew what we’d have to pay him to play for us. We’d hardly expect him to work his way up the pay-scale.
Much as I’d love to believe the principled “we won’t tear up the wage structure and upset dressing-room harmony for a 36 year-old with a strong affiliation with United” stuff, I suspect the reality is that given a straight choice between City and United he simply chose them.
He may have chosen them seriously thinking that United could win the CL with him. What he did not do was think United would be PL champions again with him in the team. You can see where his priorities are based on what he does in each competition. And that’s why I’m glad we didn’t end up with him, because his priorities are not mine.
