What they should do is simple. Get rid of all the ridiculous seedings and rules around who you can and cannot play.

Have a completely open group. You'll obviously still get some uninteresting games and groups but it will inevitably throw up far more tasty groups where you cannot just predict 90% of the final group standings before a ball has even been kicked as you can now.

Imagine a scenario where city, Bayern and Real Madrid all get drawn into the same group and only 2 go through that would be an incredible group stage, but uefa have done as much as they can short of literally handing out byes to ensure all the big boys make it into the knockouts comfortably and all the money spinners can be milked for longer.

i get what you mean but then you’d just end up with a lot of meh knockout stage games.
