Does anybody know why in the champs league if you have a striped shirt then the back where the number goes cannot be striped, it has to be one colour? I presume this is why we are using the 3rd kit as the away. It seems like really silly rule, making rules for the sake of it.

I believe it's so that the player's name & number shows more clearly on a solid background, rather than a stripy one. It's been the same rule in the Football League for a few years.
