Chant of the decade

The Yaya Kolo Toure song was actually the most wide spread.

Even had them scousers doing it in a hotel, as well as 90% of the party islands.

Read all the way through and the Balotelli one is the best. It was a work of genius and befitting of that lunatic.

I did like the Mancini one as well.
does anyone know who created the lyrics for balotelli? That’s something to be proud of.

I lived in Brighton in the summer of the Euros where he had the tournament of his life. Brighton hosts a lot of European kids in the summer doing language courses, and on the night of the semi-finals where he probably had the single best game of his career I heard about 15 Italian kids singing it on the beach. Fuck knows where they heard it and then more importantly learned all the words, but it was a real moment!

If we expand beyond the last decade, my favourite is the Sha La La La Summerbee song.

I first heard it, probably its inception, was a a supporters bus going to London in 1966. I think it was on the way to the Leyton Orient match and the Small Faces were blasting Sha La La La Lee on the radio. The chant arose naturally from the song. Within minutes, the whole bus was singing it.

It soon started being aired at matches, certainly after City were back in the First Division.

Then came the add-ons. United fans would respond with ‘Who the Fucking Hell is He’. The response came as ‘The Greatest Centre Forward in History’. Mike played at number nine for two or three seasons at the time with Lee at number seven.

Later City fans added the ‘United One and City Three’ line after the 1968 match at Old Trafford.

Love the videos, watching old and young fans mixed together having a good ole sing song with the beer flowing.
