Charlie Kirk shot dead at Utah university

Let us get this right. He did not just have different views. He made money from spreading lies, hate and conspiracies. Of course, he did not deserve to be murdered but such views are going to attract dangerous enemies.

I caught a brief glimpse of the clip of the murder on my Twitter feed. Literally two seconds then put my phone face down. It was grotesque. I genuinely hope you do not have the misfortune to come across it.

I genuinely feel for his family and those who were there.

Not to mention the reckless sanctions that has pushed away alies that have been on the side of America and the west for decades.

Either he's a damn fool or on a mission to destroy his country from within.

He was a right wing agitator/arsehole. He made a career of touring us Universities promoting gun rights and various other right wing views. Casual racism, misogyny and homophobia etc. He would regularly promote gun rights and has on many occasions argued that the right to carry guns is far more important than any measures to try to reduce school shootings.

It would seem someone has made a point of killing him in a school shooting.

Well this thread is probably the outing of a lot of contributors leanings and it’s not pretty, for my take 14/16 years of Trump politics have led to this fucking moment, the constant ratcheting up of hate and division, this murder is direct collateral and there will be probably more to come.

The kids don’t deserve to be without their dad whatsoever his views.

I have watched a fair bit of Owens and Kirk as a counterpoint to my general left of centre leanings.

Have to be honest that they aren’t my cup of tea but agree with your point. I think Owen’s clarified her hitler comments too in a reasonably plausible (to me) way too.

Kirk was pro gun and said what he said about gun laws so am not surprised that his opponent are saying what they are saying. Wouldn’t merit him being killed though. I actually quite admired his college speaking. Again didn’t particularly agree with his points but admired him going and making them

My wife was offered a job 18 months ago at a private international school in Florida and we turned it down. You quite literally couldn’t pay me to live there.

To be honest I don't really follow US politics and didn't know who this guy was until tonight.

The simple fact for me is someone has been killed because another person didn't like what he said. We are fucked as a society if we are fearful of our lives because we have opinions others may not agree with.
 
The behaviour of the Republicans, telling lies over and over again, not admitting Trump lost the 2020 election. Kissing Trumps ring, Trump himself by his lies and actions are the main reason this guy has been killed. The GOP are a bunch of sychophantic spineless, lowlife amoral piece of crap. They are going to be outraged and call for extra security to keep themselves safe, wringing their collective hands saying we need answers as to why this happened. Well maybe, just maybe they should all go and look at themselves in a mirror. That will give them their answer. I'm not absolving Charlie Kirk of any responsibility, certainly his rhetoric would have contributed to what has happened to him. There is no excuses for the guy that killed him but Trump and the GOP all have blood on their hands as well.
