Charlie Kirk shot dead at Utah university

I worked for 3 months for a subsidiary of Zurich in 2002 in New York, but lived in New Paltz.
I don't think there is a typical American. But aside from regular trips to see and stay with friends in Long Island and Red Bank NJ I'm not exposed to daily life.
My friends are more concerned with tax and paying for their children's education. They okay whoever is in charge.
I think China and India's behaviour has way more of an impact on the world at the moment.
The USA is run by a conglomerate of Corporations, but they are global in nature and will utilise the tax and legal code of which ever suites their needs.
The Corporation the documentary is an interesting watch

I think we are at different ends of the spectrum.

I don't think China and India not destabilising other countries and seeking regime change and helping a certain country commit genocide for their advantage is as overtly obvious as what the US does.

But that's just me...

There isn't a position where he can blame the entire left wing for this.

Bernie Sanders posted this.

This is Bernie Sanders who didn't criticise Kamala Harris for removing differing voices on her Pres tour.

This is Bernie Sanders that doesn't criticise the silencing of protest in the senate.

This is Bernie Sanders who, himself, had dissenters removed from his rally.

This is Bernie Sanders who turned his back on the Working Class by joining the Democratic Party when people needed him most.

Fuck you, Bernie Sanders.

Wont be long until they are rattling collection tins on college campuses and on the internet, it's a sad indictment of the stupidity infesting US society.
Why is that? Will it be the NRA who spearheads it? Cuz I doubt liberals are gonna “tin-rattle” for an politically-unaffiliated kid of a conservative Mormon family with a dad sheriff.

It is a difficult question which is why English law has a clear test of insanity for the purpose of criminal trials: see Mcnaughten rules.
It can go wrong, often through public pressure to get a conviction.
The Yorkshire Ripper was declared sane and was found guilty of murder. It took about six weeks for the prison service to declare him nutty as a fruit cake and reassign him to Broadmoor. In reality he was schizophrenic and should never have been tried as a common criminal.
(He used to drink in my then local and I was on nodding terms with him. No sign in the pub of anything wrong. He came from a highly dysfunctional, criminal family.)

Right! Sorry I read this later on in the thread as I'm working through them, but you made my point in my absence of response.

I would think in today's understanding, he'd have been picked out as a schizophrenic much earlier.

Which spectrum?

The only way of preventing the career criminal murdering anyone else i a good stint in the clink where he can reflect a watch his back.

I did state quite clearly that I am not a liberal, it's too late for intervention for this beast.

Yes, "too late for intervention" when the family had been asking for it. For some reason, you claim they were "covering for his cuntishness" and not focusing on the failing of the system.

Quite honestly, I don't understand that mindset.

He deserves to be in a place for the mentally ill and if they provide that treatment in a wing in prison, fine.

Jail, by itself, is not an answer.

It was an over-simplistic comparison, I'm aware of that, but I feel it's still worth discussing.

As a token example, with all the impossibilities involved, take 2 scenarios.

1. Hitler is murdered in 1922, when nobody knows of him. He doesn't come to power and isn't responsible for the murder of millions.

2. Hitler is murdered in 1943, he has already killed millions.

Killer 1 would be demonised, killer 2 feted as a hero. It's always best to prevent problems rather than respond to them, but in a lot of ways the problem has to exist and be obvious for that extreme action to be accepted.

Now Charlie Kirk clearly wasn't Hitler. He was a man with a huge platform with the power to influence millions. At 32, he was way more involved in politics than Donald Trump and Ronaldo Reagan.

I'm not saying any of this is right, and I don't have any answers, just questions. Just concerned about what comes next I guess, but that's the way of the world these days.

Absolutely nothing wrong with your comment about Hitler.
Germany was doomed after the treaty of Versailles.

Governor of Utah, "I was praying that it was an immigrant."

It is hard to imagine a world in which someone occupying such a position thinks it is okay to say such a horrific thing. Lord, these are horrendous times politically.

Really? Surprised, given he struck a reasonable tone at other times. The shooters background has taken some heat out of the ‘radical crazed left’ nonsense. Not so much fun when the alleged culprit isn’t ticking their lunatic bingo card.

Perhaps the US should see this as an opportunity for some sober reflection on where they are right now. I mean, they won’t, but they should.

Not his exact words, to be fair. I did find what he said strange, but he did mention someone driving from another state as well.
