This is true but a country that can't cope with the assassination of a TV celebrity, is already in a bad place. Trump would have found an excuse to ratchet up the authoritarianism without Kirk's death.
Do we have an equivalent of Kirk in the UK and what would happen if he were assassinated? Would the country fall apart?

No, I don’t think there is anything more to this, but it is driving a lot of people on the right* insane so let ‘em fight and pass the popcorn.

*And a fair few on the left, but mainly to pour petrol on the flickering flame of distrust in the Trump Administration. Oh, and because they don’t believe anything that comes out of the FBI.

Isn't one line of enquiry who benefits from his death?
Don't think the left do as there are so many nutters on the right one less makes very little difference.
The right obviously benefit from his death generally as it motivates them to become even more virulent. But within the American right I imagine there are factions. Maybe he wasn't as loved as everyone says.

Why do you think Robinson chose Kirk in particular? Was he just an easier target than the likes of Trump, Musk etc?

You can argue who stands to make the most political capital out of his death - Trump, Kirk’s wife, Fuentes etc, but the actual circumstances seem fairly straightforward. Robinson hated Kirk and his views, Kirk was active in his age demographic and then there is opportunity as Kirk presented himself pretty much on his doorstep. Add in the fact no one imagined Kirk would be in danger at a university in deep red Utah so security would have been light.

I don’t even think it’s a right/left thing. Robinson did it for personal reasons rather than political in my opinion. Not that anyone cares why he did it, it’s all about using his death to further various competing political narratives.

Anyway, my take on this for what it’s worth.

As you say, no one cares why he really did it. They only care about getting their own made up narrative accepted by enough people, which won’t be too difficult because the MAGA morons believe everything Trump and Fox says.

I agree.

The text messages seem bizarre but then so is crawling up on a roof and shooting someone.

The problem is that it will be easy to weaponize his motives by those in the Trump regime because they are offering a simple narrative which is very comforting. 'He was a leftist and they're all violent, this is your enemy now.'

As opposed to the disturbing reality that it appears as though Robinson is a seemingly mild mannered (obviously in appearance only) young bloke who decided without much planning that he didn't like Charlie Kirk and he would put a bullet in him. It's far harder to comprehend and is quite uncomfortable to confront as a reality. People don't like it. It's a messy conclusion and doesn't fit neatly in to a box with a nice bow on it.

If you look at the messages from the discord server and the text msgs between his friends and his partner seemed quite normal. Not members of a dark web antifa network. You wouldn't even realise Robinson had a political leaning. I think I read that there's like two/three very generic references about politics that he contributed in the whole of the discord server.

Unfortunately I don't think any of this will ever make any sense which suits those pushing the simplest narrative.

Either way the FBI have seriously prejudiced any prosecution by releasing all the 'evidence'.

In what world is a jury going to find him not guilty though? If his lawyers have any sense then they'll be telling him to plead guilty and to come up with some mental health sob story. The big win for Republicans will be if the FBI can pull some sort of leftist/Democrat conspiracy out of him in exchange for a reduced sentence...

His trajectory at the mo is death row although I don't think that Utah execute many prisoners so maybe the judges are quite lenient there. They'll face a lot of federal pressure though unless he can throw them a bone...
