Chelsea (a) post match thread

Agree but why wasn't the ageing squad addressed after last season?

We had a budget! I believe instead of going for fullbacks We went for Sane because we might of missed out on him if we didnt and pep probably thought we get by with what we have. Top 3 and the fa cup and he be right.

Nah, Pep,will make errors like every other manager. The difference is there's some who see it as his first season with a squad top heavy with ageing out of contract players and learning a new league and there's others, well, there others..
Finally some sense. We all knew of the failings of the squad. Yes we hoped it would be fixed in 2 windows but give him chance before we write him off. I'm no happy clapper just a fan who knows chopping and changing managers isn't the way forward. Yes Chelsea do it but the pleasure of watching that every week...I don't think so.

And so did/do I. But has he got the grit and determination, win at all costs mentality, to succeed in the Premier League. Under Mancini we played Stoke three times in close succession. Once in the league and twice in the cup. They kicked lumps out of us and Mancini's only complaint was that we were not strong enough to win that particular battle. He knew we needed to dominate teams. I hope Pep is starting to realise that. Pretty teams win nothing, ask Arsenal.

Agreed. I was talking with my older brother after the Liverpool draw, he's been through the trenches with City far more than I have, he remarked that Pep could well end up turning into Wenger and he might well be right.

Pep: "It's an honour to have the amazing players I have. We come here to Stamford Bridge and play the way we have, with huge personality."

This IS the worst side we have had since 2011
Can say pretty confidently I would back mancinis title side to slap this team around in every way possible 8 games out of 10
Would certainly be backing that side too, with more fight and guts to carry the fans passion and expectation in equal measure

Tonight we rolled over and died, with some impressive passing thrown in to cloud over the abysmal mentality we now have firmly installed

Alas, all we can do is hope we do what we should do, and secure the wins against the lesser sides to secure top 4.

I hope you are right and I am wrong, but so far he has been poor IMO. We are no better than last season.

So many golden chances going begging game after game. Nando is a good all round player, but he made the mistake all non-right backs make. Zaba knows how to influence the winger into going where he doesn't want to go if he can't win the ball and how to create a difficult obstacle.

I thought we did ok but didn't take our chances. Chelsea are a very efficient and effective team and will be deserving champions but not a team I would want to watch that frequently.
Absolutely this. Anyone who thought that even Guardiola could come in and sort the mess we were in last season in an instant needs to give their heads a wobble!

Pep has had ONE season in the hardest & strongest league in the world, and he like all our previous managers deserves time to sort things out. We're close, very close, and I personally think that another transfer window and more time for Pep to figure out the PL and for our players to completely get their heads around what Pep wants will be what we need to get us back to our 2012 level.

Beyond that, I still firmly believe Pep is the man to take us to the next level and I don't say that lightly. Keep the faith and I'm sure we will be handsomely rewarded.

There were some positives tonight but what concerns me is that yes, Pep will address the weaknesses in our squad and bring in better players and cut out the deadwood but so will all the other top 6 teams as well. It's not like hey presto we're going to dramatically improve and they are all going to standstill even if Chelsea and Liverpool are burdened with playing in Europe next season. Pep's got it all on to make us into contenders next season - it not a gimme by any means.

It may be effective but no way I would love us to play that way, and if we did we would be looking at suspensions every other week!. One false move from Conte and the whole thing at Chelsea will implode again.

I don't think so. Conte is in control. The players know their individual jobs and they are deadly serious of making sure every one of them does it. Defending isn't about buying the best defenders. It's about drilling the team to defend as a unit. Drilling, drilling, drilling. We've got too many fancy Dans who don't want to do the hard work. Sterling, KDB, Yaya, Stones, Kolarov to name a few. Silva isn't in that list because he's a legend.

I wouldn't say we were the better team in the second half, that second half went exactly how conte had planned it to go.

I agree that Chelsea's plan was to sit deep and hit us on the break but we had enough chances in the second half to get at least a point. Dinho, Vinny, Sergio and Stones easier to score than miss chance

Doubt their plan was to allow us to have so many excellent chances to score

Ha haaaaaaaa.......wum

Yes good points but this is Conte's first season and this is Pep first season. Last season Chelsea finished 10th. Both new managers, both in first prem league seasons. Why has Conte pissed so much on us and we are 14 points behind. Sorry simply not good enough and our team has regressed from MP and is arguably worse than last season and given we have the so called worlds best manager are we not entitled to be a little pissed off?

Conte inherited a strong squad that won the league only 18 months ago , Mourinho f*cked up completely last season , Guardiola inherited a weaker and older group of players , can't say i am skipping at the moment , but i watched our brilliant youth team on Monday night and i just think the club is moving steadily in the right direction. Never expected Pep to take the Premeir League by storm in his 1st season , your disparaging marks about the "so called" world best manager would be more accurate maybe at the end of next season if he has won nowt , he needs a minimum of two to three transfer windows to sort the club out

You're so witty, typing on a cell phone and it auto enters something you didn't right and you pointed that out, why don't you go through hear and correct everyone that'll be a scream
Through hear? Hear what? Listen, if you can't take Kompany coming back as a positive(even if we lost) and be happy that Delph handled himself well away at the champions elect then there's not much else we've got to talk about. You asked for positives I gave you mine. Disagree if you like but saying "we lost so they can't have been that good" is opening yourself up for a bit of comeback.

Fuck me, we really should let a couple of hours pass before opening up the post match thread, give people time to think before posting.

I'm thinking more long term.

The Silva - De Brunye CM partnership doesn't work. They are too similar and neither make any forward off the ball runs. That's why we need someone like Isco, or like you said Gundogan. We also need a top class midfield pivot who can defend and pick a pass.

IMO there will be no room for KDB in the central areas, however his delivery is world class and he could be utilised out wide in a more effective manner.
That would mean sacrificing Sterling or Sané, both long term options, as is Kev, I'd rather just push Silva back deeper and get Kev closer to the box where he's most effective (as we saw last season).

It does work, its just de bryne has been a tad bit suite as of late.
