Jesus has a brilliant record with us! Granted he's only taken 1 lol

He does seem the type to take a good pen though so he gets my vote, plus he will be on the pitch more than yaya I'd think. this isn't just a knee jerk reaction to last night either as I've nearly always said I don't feel overly confident when Sergio steps up, yaya and balotelli on the other had...

I'm not saying that I want him to, but I can see him going 3 at the back for this one. I'm not a fan, but it was working in the home game against these last year before the Alti fan started getting involved. Think we might match them up:

.........Ederson
..Ota...Stones...Danilo
KW.....................LS
...Dinho...Gundogan
....KDB.......D Silva
........Aguero

Sané had a bit of a mare in that system against Everton, but he played it very well against Chelsea at home as it forced their wing back in to his own half. Delph is an alternative there if we want to keep is solid, but knowing Guardiola, if we do play 3 at the back, I'd expect him to want at least one of the wing backs to be very attacking.

Another manager whinging about the game not being on Sunday and then having a day less to recover.

Has pep moaned about it? Nope just gets on with it.

Tbh if Pep did moan about it, you'd be in here saying how right he was to point it out. Let's be real here.

Last night Chelsea result is irrelevant and there is nothing to fear but our ability to miss clear cut chances. Convert 40% at least of those and we'll probably win. We had better possession, more shots, and more shots on goal, out-pass them in their third, in the both games last season. Not to mention the ref who eviscerated us at home. Just focus and score and we are winners. Start missing them like against Shaktar and we need to worry.

We're scoring goals for fun and haven't conceded in forever. Meanwhile, the "impregnable DM partnership of Kante and Bakayoko" were dispossessed on the ball 5 times last night, as much as Fernandinho in his 8 games this season combined.

Some of the recency bias here is staggering. Only a week ago Chelsea limped to a 0-0 draw against a poor Arsenal and a week before had to hold on to beat Leicester 2-1. They're a good side but on current form we're better and, as much as we should be afraid of sloppy play, all the more so does that apply to them.

It works both ways...we drew against a poor Everton side and not long ago we only just beat Bournemouth due to a last minute winner.

They'll be high on confidence after dominating a good Atletico side at their home turf, so it's obviously not gonna be easy and people should be a bit cautious imo, and rightly so.

Seems to be a lot of penalties in the recent matches at Stamford Bridge.

We got one in the Wayne Bridge match in 2010, we lost in 2011 to a dodgy penalty, we got one 2 seasons ago and last season Dinho gave away the most obvious penalty ever

It will be an intresting match. and a good one.
on paper we have stronger team all around, and we have the abilty to out-play them if we get to controle the ball as we did with watford and Liverpool.
I predict it wil be 0-4 city or draw with goals.
i think either SSJ front or AJ if pep feels Augro is not to tired.
the good thing is we have had one more day rest to CHE, but for sure it will be an entertaining match :)

David Luiz is still missing for them isn't he ? evens out the back 4 for me now

Yep, he is still missing, but if I was you, I would more hope that Cahill starts, because Christensen is more than an adequate replacement for Luiz. The ideal back 3 would be Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger. If Cahill plays, we will concede at least 2 I think.

Quite honestly, I'd like Luiz to be playing so that Sergio could wind him up and get him red carded, the way he should have been at the Etihad last season.

Still seething about that one. Kev puts that one in (that seemed unmissable) and Luiz off, and I'm absolutely certain it's a different result, and maybe a different season. Anyhoo, we move on. We're better this year. I want at least a point here, and three is definitely doable.

I rate Cahill, maybe i dont watch enough so i cant pass judgement.

My feeling is he will go for the 343 to match them like both games last year IMO. Pep clearly sees it as a way to minimise Chelsea’s threat and allowing us to keep control of the midfield.

1. Keeps Alonso/Moses pegged back because there is no way you can give the likes of Sane a free run at the back three. This is the key battle IMO.
2. Gives us the extra man in the middle to create triangles around the Kanté/Bakayoko axis.
3. Bernardo and Silva are work horses so will track back. Bernardo in particular to double up on Hazard when necessary
4. An extra body in the middle to stop Chelsea’s counter game.
5. If necessary, the midfield can come narrow with Sterling and Sane dropping to create a 361.

Walker (or Danilo) - Stones - Otamendi

—————— Fernandinho ————

—— Bernardo - KDB - Silva ———

Sterling —— Aguero ——— Sane

But of course this is Pep. I could be completely off and he throws a spanner in the work. But I recall last year how daring it was to match their system, at a time they were flying, and to a large extent it worked. Could and should have won both games. I don’t recall us ever using that system for anybody else.

I'd say there is zero chance we go to Stamford bridge with 3 defenders and 6 attackers. Not even Kevin Keegan would do that.

Did he take them for Dortmund?
Scored one in the CL final against Bayern.

Last year we played with two in DM, Delph and Fernandinho. Although IIRC that was due to injuries ahead of anything else.

I suspect we'll go with Sterling and Sane in this if we play the Fern-Silva-KBD trio. Chelsea rely on attacking with width and we can't afford to leave our fullbacks exposed. However I wouldn't be TOTALLY shocked if we went with the same lineup we did against Liverpool, but with Delph in at LB of course.
