Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

You could sense what the game would end up like from our first 15 mins of sloppy play. Miss cued passes, snails pace etc..Chelsea of course sat back but we were so complacent, youth team manager, stepping they will be clueless etc... we were terrible. What should have happened is we should have gone for the jugular first 15... really got at 'em with quick passing, you can mess up a few 1 - 2's in their 3rd by trying to play quick..that wouldn't have hurt us as they had all their men around their own 18 yrd box. What did we do...let them settle into that easy deep bank of 5 and 4..they coasted it because we were far too complacent. Got what we deserved... I lost my dad on NYE 83...City through and through Collyhurst lad... he was saying our complacency kills us...God rest his soul..you were right auld fella. Our crowd didn't help.... we hardly make it intimidating do we. Must be a breeze playing us with regards to that - even when we really needed it. V Sunderland, I thought we were great, right at it, excellent game..tonight...woeful.
Sorry for your loss Blue

We are treading water matey ? the fitness because of a lack of quality to rest players means we look fucked
Today showed the difference between 2 days rest between games and 4 days.

These results can happen. Ees football.

The injuries are what will stop us getting to our highest level and competing for the title, not this one result.

We're treading on water mate but he said we were outplayed for the entire game that's absolute bollocks. He said Donnarumma was poor for the goal he made one save unfortunately it fell back to Fernandez question should be where we're the defenders.

On another day City win that by 3/4, outplayed my arse.

A team that cant run for 90 minutes

A manager being stubborn

Some dog shit transfers

A world class.striker that goes missing in every big game
How was he missing ffs? He was feeding off scraps, still making great runs but Foden and Cherki couldn’t find him. Thought he played really well tonight. Criticize the right players if you going to give criticism.
Oh, and why was pep stubborn? what could he have done differently?

It was so obvious they would equalise. We are not good enough, end of. With fatigue and injuries I see another draw or loss incoming v Brighton to put the final nail in our title bid coffin.

Turgid to watch at the moment. And the standard of the league is shocking - rags in 6th despite being woeful.

I said at half time we needed a second early in the second half.

Inexplicably Pep (and the players) didn’t respond at all to Chelseas’s obvious change of formation where they created the 4 man midfield box. This enabled them to control the midfield and later isolate Rodri. It was clear Chelsea were going to create goal scoring opportunities as a result. That’s not a good strategy at 1-0.

I’m struggling to find any rationale for keeping Rodri on for the full game. He was obviously dying at 65 mins and was being waltzed past at will.

Ake coming on was very unfortunate. He’s clearly miles off fitness, was slow, stiff and cumbersome and looked uncomfortable. Not sure there was any other option though. Lack of squad depth.

I wonder how @GX Blue feels now after saying we’d beat Chelsea and Semenyo could stay at Bournemouth, twiddling his thumbs, a few more days?

You wonder how I feel? Gutted of course.

My opinion wasn’t stupid. You keep going on about it like I’ve said the worst thing ever, ha.
Second time you’ve tagged me since that quick chat. Hindsight is a lovely thing.

I stand by my opinion.

At the time we were on an 8 game winning run. We didn’t need another player to beat Chelsea and it was sensible to give Bournemouth a better chance of getting a result V Arsenal which they very nearly did.

Things have changed since my comment as well, we drew v Sunderland and had a few injuries.

You make out like if Semenyo played today we’d have 100% won. We were pretty crap today so it’s unlikely we would have won regardless. We didn’t even play with wingers today.

Tell you what, I’ll tag you in when we sign Semenyo and we don’t win a game. I’ll say - I wonder how The stoned guy feels that we played Semenyo and we didn’t win… Messed up the balance of the side. Bet he’s twiddling his thumbs.

I’ll see you then ha.

O'Reilly has been brilliant dont be daft
I get the sentiment, the kids had a real go in a position that isn’t his, so you want him to be a success, but in the cold hard light of the day..he’s not the answer.

Same with nunes, he’s improved, and he’s been really good the last two games, but he needs replacing.

It’s about finding that extra 1 or 2% to be champions again. Have to be ruthless.

There under 21 manager made plenty of subs we needed subs on in midfield
We did, but who to pick from that bench tonight?

Maybe Rico Lewis or more likely Mukasa could have come on, and I was a bit surprised Reijnders came off because he can at least run when he wants to. But other than that, there wasn’t any other option.

I really do think the squad needs a lot of work. We need at least two top class midfielders and another centre half, probably a full back, and decisions on people like Marmoush have to be made as well. Meanwhile we’ve got Ortega and Phillips doing nothing essentially, and we’re paying out the thick end of 250 grand a week for the privilege.

Much work to be done.

Overall we are doing great.

Keep it going city. Rebuilding a winning squad takes time and buying good players.

Getting there bit by bit.

Sorry to hear about your dad, mate .
We are far too honest at times as well and certain people take advantage of that . We like to play football but like you say if we had gone for it first 15 we may have got the second which would have deflated them.
On the other hand this team has ended up being knackered by 70 mins and then it can end up more disappointing .
Thank you pal for your kind words... Yes he was a huge blue all his life..Match goer until his health wore him down, gave my brothers and I a common bond, which we will be indebted to him whether we win or lose.... it's a fair point re energy..but i think an early goal would have deflated 'em. They may have gone into damage limitation mode ...or even if they went for in last 20...that would have played into big erl's hands with space to run into. I just thought we were not right from the off INCLUDING our crowd!!!!

Poor not to get all three points esp after the first half. We are so wasteful in front of goal, take an age to get up there, constantly want to walk the ball in, constantly want too many touches and constantly seem to make the wrong decision. We rarely take shots from distance and when we do they hit the second tier.
Chelsea are supposedly a shambles and currently have a youth team manger at the helm. He sorted them out after the first half though. His subs and changes made a difference. Not sure why Pep kept Foden or Cherki on as neither contributed anything. I would have kept Reijnders on.
I really hope Gvardiol is ok, Reuben looked alright but who knows.
What a faff of a game, a faff of a result, we looked a bit weak that second half, short of ideas.
