Chelsea (H) | Post-Match Thread

Dearie me, what the fuck was Aguero doing, it looked like he was playing
the cocky type showing up the opposition with his disdainful chip destined to
lazily hit the net.
Silly, silly bugger.
All in all, 9 changes resulted in the exact same outcome, a listless, haphazard
performance.

I started to write a long explanation of my thoughts about yesterday having slept on it . Written it , re written it and scrubbed it.
I`ve now realised I still haven`t got a effing clue why he chose that team. All the benefits to going strong and winning it were there to see as were the down sides to losing .
I`ll trust in Pep that he sees the bigger picture better than me but I cant reconcile this new practice of actually writing games off as dispensable, make no mistake that`s what we`ve done several times this season. I`ve heard the explanations why but they just don`t sit well with me.
As for the pen ....

There was a tactical thing Chelsea did which will have been good to get sight of before the CL final - they were very effective at committing our wide defender and then also pulling in the nearest centre back before releasing a runner in behind. I thought that was effective all game.

Exactly, let's not forget that was nowhere near Chelsea's strongest eleven as well. The final is 50/50 for me
Really? Only Mount and Thiago and Chilwell really missing
Don't think any of those would have made a difference to Chavs overall performance yesterday

First off congratulations on the title and yes it’s only a matter of time although I hope from a selfish point it isn’t sorted out before you are due to play next!

Having read a few, not all I admit, comments on here some are really quite strange

First off from a Chelsea perspective let’s deal with VAR.

Sterling was very very lucky that his yellow wasn’t a red. His studs were showing and probably 8/10 times that the ref would be sent to the monitor if it wasn’t given on the field had it been he certainly wouldn’t have been asked to review his decision

The first penalty was harsh but as we hear time after time you can’t get close to anyone in the box. So yep no complaints . Thank you Augero

The second one looked like a penalty but Taylor ,who has an awful record against us , probably from his angle wasn’t 100% sure and VAR didnt think there was a clear and obvious error, thankfully for us, but I would have gone mad if the roles had been reversed.

On to team selections.

When I looked at your team selection prior to kick off I too thought the number of changes looked extreme but come off it it’s not as if Pep pulled in 9 supporters and asked if they fancied a game. Its not as if you had a 19 year old rookie playing a pivotal role in midfield was it !

Of course we went stronger based on last games selections but Tunchal said something in the build up when he talked about the Fa cup game and how he thought you looked leggy having played a day later, having to travel to London etc. That said Tunchal still went strong and my guess is he was hoping for a draw at best but hoping of course for a win but having seen how Pep set you up and of course aided by losing 1-0 at half time he realised he had to get Alonso and James further forward and to be honest it worked a great.Well agin for us

Players everywhere are starting to be impacted by the efforts they have put into the season to date. Lots of players need rest but at the same time they need to keep match fitness so it’s a fine balance but for me if I were in Pepe’s shoes I would have wanted the league done and dusted so why did he make so many changes ?

Was it he expected us to write off the game so expected Tuchal to make even more changes ?
Was it he is worried about the players being in the “red zone” ?
Was it he overates the depth of your squad ?
or
Was it something else?

Most cup finals are held at the end of the season at a time when players are shattered both physically and mentally.

End of season create a completely different challenge meaning anything can happen. Of course you will be expected to win but just like you in this competition we have beaten everything that’s been put in front of us to get to the final so we are there on merit .

We will present a challenge to whoever Pep selects but if your players go into the game with the same mindset some on here seem to have then it could get messy

Confidence is one thing arrogance is another !

Wipe ya fucking fannies!!!

fucking hell some of the waffle on here this morning !!!

we need to win one game of the remaining 3 ffs to win the league that’s if the rags win all of there’s which they won’t .

We are in the champions league final .

It’s a pleasant Sunday , log out , go for a walk , enjoy a roast and grow up

Was it not?
Let me in to your secret

No secret. We played a knock out tie 4 days prior that if we lost, we were out... yesterday we could lose and we are still going to win the competition is was played in.

Far from the biggest game of the season.

I certainly agree it was stupid from pep and was very angry myself at him but perspective is needed.

Could it be. Could it actually be that Pep was showing our owners how shit some of squad players are?
That we need to strengthen this squad to reap full reward.
Hold on Sterling scored a tap in and should be tied to a new lucrative deal.
Bollocks that yesterday was worse than watching a Wolves match.
Bland with no will to win.
Bemoaning a penalty decision (which it was) at home to Win The LEAGUE

I’m more pissed off today than I was yesterday.
Aguero’s probably eliminated any chance of Pep trusting him to play any part in the final, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t play again. I hope he does, and I hope he scores a few, but I don’t think it will happen.
We’ve made life easier for Chelsea which is incredibly annoying and foolish.

I still think our strongest team is more than capable of beating theirs, but we’ve given them all of the confidence they need. Never forget how important the feeling of being unbeatable is when you’re on a run, that feeling has made us invincible for long periods in recent years, and we’ve just given them that feeling.

Sorry mate don't agree.
He will now play a strong team at Newcastle and hopefully we win it giving us just 2 games to rest!/experiment with
Psychological edge as gone to Chelsea

If the Rags win the next three games (3 in 5 Days) before we play again on Friday, then start to worry. Until then just cool it,
If Pep had picked a sensible team now we wouldn’t have to worry. We would be eating our Bacon Butties with a glass of champagne celebrating another title win.
It’s still very likely to happen but the gloss will have been taken off, especially if Manure drop points, giving us the title.
Luckily we had no fans at the game. If we did there would have been ructions!
