Chelsea (H) - Post-Match Thread

Chelsea are absolutely shit, can't believe the lack of effort from them. Best of luck with that lot, Poch. Fans were no better, why bother traveling that far too just sit there?

As for our second string, nicely done. Pleased to see Phillips get a full game and was unlucky to not get a goal. Best game I've seen from Palmer being out on the wing. Good to see Foden move into the middle, which is where he needs to grow into. And 3 points we didn't need, but another win and clean sheet to keep the momentum going.
Foden is a bit of a conundrum. He is a natural no.10, which Pep doesn’t usually play. He could play like El Mago. All depends on whether Gundog or Bernado or both leave, but he must move into the middle soon.

Nice try!

To be fair, I was looking for it on the way home & couldn't find this thread. Most who could be arsed were posting in the Champions thread instead.

It was quite some time after the match this post was created. I think it was also dampened because we won the title without kicking a ball, so this match became somewhat of a dead rubber affair... \0/

Ah yes, I know all about dead rubbers.

A good win for our 2nd team. It was nice to see the other players get the chance today to show what they can do.

I think we should go for a full Strength team on Wednesday then reserves for next Sunday. We need players to keep up their fitness and momentum for the 2 Cup finals but also not to risk unnecessary injuries.
I prefer what we did yesterday with seniors getting a tune up at the end. Pep sees them in training, that’s all it takes……..
plus some overthinking.

Was always going to be a really low key game knowing the league was won, just shows how woeful Chelsea are to not even be able to beat out 2nd string. We would've lost that game to other prem teams as we looked wide open at times, but it doesn't matter one jot

With the title won i think this was the game to rest the majority because there was nothing riding on it. Brighton and Brentford are still in the fight for Europe as are teams close to them. A team like yesterday against them two could draw the FA into questioning integrity and we don't have great history with them for some strange reason.

That is a really good point re tryi
Palmer has definitely got the talent.
I think his problem is that he doesn't get too many minutes to impress, so when he does get on the pitch he 'tries too hard'.
City had a player called Ryan Wilson who was snatched away for the price of a washing machine. Some of Cole's runs and dribbling skills remind me of that player.
We should persevere with the lad, he will come good.
That is a really good point re trying too hard. Thing is Pep is rightly impressed when players play to a system, take chances in the right areas but he doesn't seem to like players turning. Seems a tiny point but you can see it in his face = too bigger a risk unless sort of planned. The rest of the players are typically set up for the ball being rolled back and re-cycled when the wide player has the ball and facing his own goal (Jack Grealish style). I think if Palmer pulls out a trick as he did when he spun off and roasted his marker. yesterday looks great .....but....the rest of lads weren't set up for this so he didn't have the opportunity to swing a ball in behind defense for Haaland et al to run on to, which would be standard when you have opposition defense pushing out 'squeezing us'. I think if you have the ability to turn a man it is a great tactic BUT need the team to be in sync i.e. forward players ready to exploit the space, defensive players tucking in tight centrally in case we lose possession. Probably means Pep needs to be in control and getting the staff to work on this in training. Not a bad thing but i do think off the cuff play doesn't really work at City, which is fair enough.

They didn't have a manager to impress. Footballers at professional level = all about self preservation...fk the fans. It was obvious that this was how the game would pan out with an ineffective stand in manager
