Chelsea thread 2020/21

Pep is one in a million , as well you know

No question but it negates the premise of your post, that it is not simply emotional

I far prefer a successful ex player from the club who has coached well with promise than recycling has beens like Fat Sam et al

I do think, however, Chelsea was not the right situation owing to how unstable the Russian is in terms of patience. Whether Frank will turn into a fine coach one day, who knows but the question of it being too big a job only reflects a lack of courage - if you are ready, you're ready irrespective of your CV.

Chelsea were on 32 pts last season at Matchweek 19, 29 currently. A drop in 3 pts for a revamped squad that finished 4th last season seems premature, at the very least, for a team still in CL too. Ole, by comparison, has been given far more latitude

He did a job that got everybody talking with Barça B though.

Chris Wilder did a much better job at Sheff Utd than Lampard did at Derby, but Chelsea wouldn’t have hired Wilder.

In the 4th division, yes. But still, what Frank did with Derby was considered impressive so effectively both came into their 1st division jobs with similar managerial experience as ex-players

Typical Chelsea.

Though the'd be gone if they'd lost yesterday but didn't expect him to get chop just yet.

Disgusting really: if you appoint a young up and coming manager, you really need to give them more time - although who knows what Chelsea management see from the inside.

There's a rumour that Chile may want Lillo and if he goes, I think City should consider Frank as Pep's #2. Not with a particular view to him taking over when Pep goes. He could go on to NYFC (again) to develop his trade.

I doubt Frank would go for it and might be too opinionated to be a #2 now.

Feel disappointed for Frank. He’s a proud man and a perfectionist for whom a fat pay-off won‘t altogether soften the blow. Still, he knew the risks as well as anybody.

Premature in my opinion. Premature to appoint him in the first place and now premature to sack him. (Hope I don’t appear to be premature expert!). He should at the very very least have been given the full season. Abramovic is a spoiled brat twat, rich enough to experiment at any cost.

I doubt if he’ll be interested in anything other than a no.1 role somewhere else and believe he’s got a great future ahead of him in management.

I could write "Give the ball to Ronaldo" on the whiteboard too tbf

And you would have got the same reaction as Mike Bassett. I'm not arguing that ZZ compares to Pep as a coach or has the same tactical knowledge of the game but his achievements as a manager speak for themselves. He was able to achieve those wins with his particular approach because of the respect and huge admiration from the squad his playing career afforded him. Pep may be a generational talent as a coach, but plenty of rookie ex-players have had trophy winning success at the top level.

Frank Rijkaard had a 15% win ratio at Sparta Rotterdam before he was appointed at Barcelona. Nobody would have appointed him on the back of that without his reputation established as a player.

Ridiculous in my opinion. Giving him the job when he was underqualified should have meant giving him time.

He had things against him last year that no other manager had with the transfer ban and overperformed to get them 4th. This year he's over compensated for the ban by splashing as much cash as possible expecting it to be an instant success when in reality it was never going to play put like that.

If a club legend can go in with all the problems they had and not get longer than 18 months I've no idea how long Tuchel or whoever ends up replacing him expects to get because regardless of who they put in charge they're not getting an instant drastic improvement.
