this could have a big knock on effect for the other 2 or 3 premier league top clubs in buying future players.
newcastle now have a door being slightly opened if chelsea are not bought by a person willing to drop £billions into the club. also it will bring united back into the pack with only manchester city and liverpool still miles ahead

i think chelsea will find it hard to find somebody willing to buy them at the asking price and cover the debt ?
this could end up being like leeds utd for chelsea ? a fire sale and asset stripped

My reading of the 1.5b is it’s on the books as a soft loan with zero interest being paid back. It’s essentially non football generated income but because it was provided before FFP nothing can be done about it. It wouldn’t be allowed now.
FFP doesn’t deal with debt directly you wouldn’t be allowed to run up such losses I don’t think but don’t know how much Chelsea lost in the early days I seem to think a lot less than us and they have made money recently. You are still allowed to convert losses into debt rather than Shareholder capital as we did which is much safer as we might find out with Chelsea

mad far as I understand it the debt has already been accounted for in the accounts when the loss occurred which became a debt owed to him not any other clubs or anyone else

Found this chart from Swiss Ramble.
and this explanation (not sure how it works personally)

"He swapped the loan for equity (ie shares). If he sells then he gets whatever his share of the club is (out of whatever he sells it for). The £1bn of loans does not exist (well , it does in the form of equity)."
I hesitate to gainsay the great Swiss Ramble but that's not correct. He converted the loan to equity in Chelsea's books but he "moved" the loan to the holding company Fordstam. It's now just over £1.5bn

Good find. The only question now, is how much of the 1.5bn was loaned between 2011 to 2022. Since the interest free loans themselves seem like a way around FFP(why else would he feel the need?), I assumed most of it was done during the FFP era but some are suggesting otherwise.

I suppose that's more for curiosity's sake, if UEFA weren't bothered about it before, they aren't going to come down on them now.

Can’t see anyone paying anywhere near 3 billion, he’s desperate to sell because of the sanctions. Dirty Russia money has been in our banks for years and well known but now the Gov want to act only now. Boils my piss.

Cynic in me would say the UK Gov gave him the nod to cash out before they will "take" it, as a little reward for all his help over the years.

That mental eyed lady that has bought Newcastle has said that she doesn't think it fair Abramovich should have to sell Chelsea because of his relationship with a person. That says more about her than anything. That person is Putin, a fucking dangerous lunatic. She can fuck right off
