Do you really need it explained to you?

A guy earning what 30k a year defending a footballer turning down a 3 year 30m contract because he might make another 10m elsewhere.

Is that easier for you to understand, I wasn't slagging you off, I wasn't slagging Chelsea off, just entitled overpaid footballers.

ie I hate football sometimes.

I wasn't defending or promoting anything. I was discussing the reality of Rudiger's wages compared to the rest of the Chelsea squad. He has no obligation to accept 190k when he likely has 250k on the table elsewhere.

Wouldn't win them the CL

Probably, but with a fair wind and a decent draw, they would get closer than they are right now?

They can also probably reconcile going without for a couple of years while they flesh out the departures of people like Modric and Benzema in the seasons to come.

Rudiger - Varane
Mbappe - Bale/Ronaldo
Pogba - Modric/Kroos
Alaba - already taken on a free.

Both. Rudiger is obviously living and working in an alternate reality but the concept is the same. If you're a top 3 performer in your team but you're outside the top 10 earners in your team, when it's time to renegotiate contracts, that disparity will be get emphasised.
With regards to myself earning a very good salary, it would have been all about being safe as I had a family to support and a mortgage to pay

Rudiger's contract negotiations are totally different
He's already a millionaire many times over

A couple of years and Pogba and Rudiger will be done.

Okay, so maybe comparing it to a normal working man's situation is futile, but you do get what I'm saying.

He's on 100k a week. He has 2 offers on the table, 190k a week to stay or around 250k a week to move to Madrid. The choice is a pretty easy one.

If such a key player is unsettled then that's going to be very damaging for your team.

So far it hasn't impacted his performances. Players in contract disputes is very common and hardly the cause for unrest in the squad. Unless of course the player in question starts kicking up a stink, which there has been no sign of so far.

As I've said, he's already a millionaire many, many times over and that is only going to increase in the next three years no matter what. We're talking six million to a man who will probably be worth well over 50m (probably closer to 100)
It's now down to his career ambition, his family and their happiness
In his situation the money shouldn't come into it. If it does, there's something seriously wrong and it's pure greed and vanity

Agreed. It doesn't matter how much you earn, it's all about market value. If someone else is offering more to do the same job then you will question if your current employers are paying you what they should be, relative to the market.
