chelsea to field weakened team.

Mourinho puts himself in a position where he can't lose yet again.

If he gets a result he's a genius, if they lose then he's already laid the groundwork in terms of excuses.

Or it's all bullshit and he fields the same team he would have done regardless.

Either way he's a twat.

Not to mention

A) detracts from Liverpool's title win (as people will go to the "only won because Chelsea bagged it" card)

B) damages bigger rival (MCFC) by quite likely denying us a trophy.

Fucking brilliant, I think. Particularly if they pip Atletico next week in Chav-land.

I know I for one will be running this excuse at every scouse I talk to roughly from now until the end of eternity.

I think their so called weakened side will contain Obi, Lampard, Matic, Ivanovic, Ba, Cahill, Aspilli thingy, Cole, Salah and either Oscar or Schurrle so not that bad considering that Cech, Terry, Hazard and Eto'o are all injured. And I still think they can do a number on Liverpool.

It's an absolute disgrace that a team can purposely put out a weakened team in such an important game for the result of the Premier League. What a bunch of absolute shit.

Chelsea owe the dippers one from a few seasons back, when Gerrard " passed " to Drogba who scored the winning goal at klanfield and in doing so denied the rags the title.
Anyway, besides all that and weakened team etc: it's all decided, the ref is Martin Atkinson a homer.
We have only ourselves to blame for not finishing teams off this season.

A top manager should not be fielding a weaker team when they are mathmatically still in the title race. What kind of message is that sending to his players?
All he has to look at is our QPR game and he would see strange things do happen in footy

I'm a card-carrying Mourinho hater. I utterly despise him, and I'd never accept him as our manager (not that i think that's an issue) but this statement doesn't bother me at all. Either saying he'll do it, or if (as I think he will), he actually does it. He won't be aiming to lose, indeed I still think there's a good chance of him winning even with a weakened side, but I don't see why you could be angry. If City had an excellent chance of going through to the Champions League final and very little hope of winning the league, I'd want full priority on getting through to the Champions League final.

It'd just be nice if a team could finally keep Liverpool at 0-0 beyond the first 10 minutes. If Chelsea manage that, they've got a chance, even with their 'reserves'.

Lets just see what fucking happens before whining, we might drop points at Palace yet.

If Chelsea beat the dippers I am convinced we will beat Palace.

That's funny as I'm the other way - if Chelsea beat the Dippers I am convinced we will lose to Palace!!! "Typical City" lol

Agreed. Completely demeans the league. At the same time you can understand Chelsea's approach and the Premier League's but it is just rotten luck for us basically. At the end of the day, the FA can not put in a ruling that states a strongest XI must be played because it is not their decision to decide what is a team's strongest XI.

Adds more pressure on Liverpool in my opinion. He will keep playing the weak Chelsea card and say Liverpool will/should win etc. That means if Liverpool don't win the pressure is ramped up and the comments of "are they cracking" "they couldn't beat a weakened Chelsea" etc fill the media. So it is quite a good play by Mourinho. They can win the league but likelihood is they wont even if they win - they will still be strong enough to get a result from Anfield because football is unpredictable. In my mind I think it is fate that Chelsea rest a few and beat Liverpool. It would be Mourinho all over. He did a great job with his tactics on Tuesday - you would expect them to get to the final now and then who knows what may happen.

From our point of view, regardless of who puts on a Chelsea shirt, their tactics will be simple and effective - contain and counter. That is how they will beat Liverpool and that is how they will frustrate them. Said it a few times, those fringe players, and those suspended for the second leg, need to show Jose they are worthy of a place on the pitch in the 2nd leg/final (if they make it). Others still need to force their name into their World Cup squads so I don't imagine performances will drop too much. The fact Mikel, Lampard and Matic are all available means that their midfield will be very compact and defensive - then they have Salah, Oscar, Schurrle, Eto'o, Ba, Torres, Hazard possibly to get minutes further forward. Plenty of danger there. Defensively you would expect Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz and Ivanovic for the 2nd leg - which means Cole will feature... not a bad reserve.
