What do we make of Chelsea? Signing Walsh for half a million and another world record transfer. There’s obviously no PSR or FFP in women’s football so do the authorities just let Chelsea buy who they want and just ruin the women’s game in England? Or is it up to the likes of City, Arsenal and Utd to match their spending to be competitive? Walsh going there has disappointed me greatly if I’m honest.

Hardly a surprise really given who her partner is, I'll be interested to see how much she plays, but I think City had her best years. Seemd a bit of ridiculous fee, when she could have joined for nothing in the summer.

I thought that Bronze and her were no longer " an item " ?

Haven't they ruined the game already....is it 8 titles on the bounce?

They are the living and breathing 'might as well be Celtic ' but, they're not our men's team so apparently it's great for the game.

The WSL have a huge problem here.
They have allowed this to happen so I don't blame Chelsea. They want to challenge on all 4 fronts so need a big squad to do it. There have been no spending limits or seemingly squad limitations (number of foreign players) put in place so it follows that much will have more. They seem to have gone down the brick shithouse and superstar route.
They are at risk however of killing the golden goose before she's had a chance to build a nest.
Fans will fuck off if Chelsea win it every year and there is insufficient competition, yet not a fucking peep out of the "concerned" about an English farmers league media as they appeared to be when City won 4 in a row. Why do we think that is?

Crossways with Wrighty and Steph

It has clearly been an unlevel playing field for years with Chelsea being way out in front of the rest.

And the media have never picked up on it, always preferring to lavish praise on the set-up and management ( rightly so imo ) without ever bothering to discuss the merits of the imbalance amongst the following pack.

Can't see anything likely to change in the near future either personally.

Exactly, and the importance of the women's team clearly isn't that important to the " perpetual chasing pack "
I agree with this 100%. To maybe 95+% of the clubs, they have a women's team because they "have to" or it's the proper thing to do. I suppose this is one reason I hope the London City Lionesses find some success.

They aren't affiliated with a men's team. They are just a women's football club for the sake of being a woman's football club.

It’s up to other teams to invest as heavily, if they want to compete.

Exactly. To put it in context. Chelsea women's team's budget is around 15m a year. It's peanuts to these parent clubs.

From what I understand Walsh still really loves City but she knew a return was never on the cards. She isn't in a relationship with Bronze anymore but she spoke to her about it first and Bronze gave her the hard sell. That said, in not convinced she's the same player she was 3 years ago. Hard to judge with her playing in such an uncompetitive league in Spain but her England performances haven't been great.

Chelsea moved their women's team from being beneath the men's team at the end of last season. They now sit alongside them as their own entity. They've identified the launch of the WPLL as an opportunity for huge growth and have attracted their own outside investment and will be moving over to their own sponsorship deals. They also own their own stadium.

Other clubs are welcome to do the same. It's depressing seeing Chelsea stealing a march on everyone like this and it will make the league less competitive (which is a shame as we have a much more competitive league than other European countries) BUT this feels like something other clubs are allowing Chelsea to do.

It’s up to clubs to maximise their turnover then. It’s the same principle.

Some clubs earn less so other teams can't step up to improve there team! Chelsea and especially Arsenal who have majority of there home games at home and get massive crowds will earn a lot more! It's why we have lost so many players because European teams offer a lot more money because they don't have any caps on wages

As if we don’t know how to cook our books… ;-)

The lack of interest in doing so confirms my thinking over time that the club are not that " invested " in the womens team, and retaining Taylor to keep us in the
" following pack " is the aim when so many don't think he is capable of improving the standing of the team.

Settling for the status quo for the women , is alien to the reason d'etre for the club as a whole.

Agreed, although let’s see what this new DoF does. She’s bought some potentially exciting players.

We just need an upgrade in our footballing genius next.
