Chemotherapy/Treatment/Side-effects: Can Seasoned Fellow Blues Give Advice To Newbies

Hi Fellow Blues

I have just had my first course of Chemo a drug called "Follfox" which is a combination of three separate drugs. My treatment plan is a course of Chemo every two weeks for 6 months.

I have cancer of the large colon and of the Esophagus.

I've recovered from the op to remove half of my colon and procedures on my Esophagus to remove all the visible microscopic cancer cells leaving low grade dysplacia cells.

So as I said Chemo started yesterday. My side effects today are quite mild in fact milder than I thought they would be. Tingling fingers, feeling cold and a bit of a manky taste in my mouth. These symptoms I know will get worse as I progress. The specialist nurses have all said eating pineapple will be good for mouth ulcers if I get them during this process.

Many thanks if those blues that have been through this mill or a similar mill could share their experiences for those fellow blues like me at the start of the process.

Hopefully I'll be able to be well enough to watch the blues in some matches on the TV this season but if I'm too ill then it is what it is.

I couldn't find a specific thread on this subject, but if there is I apologise and ask the mods to delete or move to the right place.
Apologies I can't really part any wisdom on to you in this field matey.

What someone else has eluded to in terms of being about selfish interns of seeing / seeing people etc so that you aren't having to talk cancer 24/7 (I can imagine that being a real downer), choose one of your confidant's to keep apprised and allow them keep people up to speed on your behalf (tell the story once and it reaches those who are interested).

However, if / as and when you do feel like talking about it, make sure you do - no point suffering in silence on this one.

All the best and keep us updated if you feel like it.

P.S. Stay out of the Politics and Post-match threads on here, you've got far more important stuff going on.......... ;-)

Morning Mr Ed, just wanted to wish you all the best on the road ahead and hope everything goes as well as it can do for you..

You come across as a positive person on here and that will no doubt stand you in good stead..

Some good advice on here already from people who care which hopefully will be a support to you..

All the best..!

I had non-hodgkin’s lymphoma as a child way back in 1998.

Perhaps it’s the autism, adhd, a severe methylation issue or all of the above but I think I’ve had long-lasting cognitive impairments from having a six month course of chemotherapy. It’s commonly referred to as ‘chemo fog’ but usually dissipates within a year of remission.

I hope you make a speedy recovery. All the best, Mr Ed.

No advice as i have no experience but fight it pal, just keep fighting it.

Easy for me to sit here and say a positive attitude plays a part in beating shit like this but i really do believe it can and does for many.

All the best.
