Cherki and the Christmas Tree

It has been argued that this season Pep has tweaked City's formation so that Doku and Foden are playing inside with the width coming from the full backs in what has been called a Christmas Tree formation. It has been very noticeable that Doku has playing further inside and Foden also seems to be playing inside as well, so I will accept that the so called Christmas Tree does reflect the mean positions of our players.

It seems to me likely that Cherki will now become a fixture on the right of our side but how do we do that without affecting the balance of the side?

Doku and Foden have to start. They are the 2 in the 4-3-2-1 but where does Cherki fit in that?

Take out the 2 'false 8's' in front of Nico who have been running around chasing shadows and offering fuck all and stick Rodders and Cherki in job done.

I know someone will tell me off and tell me how standing in passing lanes and passing it backwards 100 times is crucial to our success. Can't be arsed arguing it. Rodri will be back at some point, we'll switch to this system and we'll be fucking awesome.

I saw Cherki and Phil both in the middle and drifting wide on Saturday. To me they were completely complimentary. Doku was forward of them and wider left. Bernie was where he was needed most. Extremely fluid formation. When Sunderland had the ball they dropped into a 4-4 with Doku and Haaland in front of the two lines. It’s pretty difficult placing all that in a rigid structure.

When Pep had KDB and Merlin they swapped positions all the time loosely playing at 8 and 10. That was the greatest English side of all time in my view. Perhaps Phil and Cherki can do that. It’s a nice problem to have with Haaland up front.

It's all about consistency with cherki if he's fit playing well and putting in a shift every game then he plays.
