Chief Exec News from Torygraph

I know this selection process has been going on for a while now, but I'd like to see this sorted out soon.....................

This is dated 6/Dec 2011, a truly blue CEO could only be a good thing;

Asia chief David Potts is latest Tesco executive to resign
David Potts, the head of Tesco's Asia operations, has announced he is to leave the company next year. He is the latest in a line of senior executives to quit the supermarket following the retirement of Sir Terry Leahy as chief executive earlier this year.

In a statement, the company said the 54-year-old was leaving "in order to begin to fulfil long-held personal ambitions".

Tesco

As a Manchester City fan, it is understood that one of Mr Potts' possible options is a role running the club.

No other director of Tesco has worked longer for the retailer. Mr Potts left school at the age of 16, becoming a shelf-stacker at his local store. He has worked for the company for the past 39 years.

He was one of a number of directors in the running to take over from Sir Terry, but missed out to Phil Clarke. The new leadership has kicked
off a raft of changes at the
top of the retailer. Andy Higginson, the former finance director, has said he is to leave, and David Reid, the non-executive chairman, is also retiring.

Clive Black, retail analyst at Shore Capital, said: "This is about generational change. Terry Leahy was a long-standing chief executive and he surrounded himself with this incredibly loyal, long-standing board. The likes of Tim Mason, Phil Clarke and David Potts had been working with him for 20, 25 years."

Insiders said there was no sign that Mr Potts was unhappy with his Asian job and Mr Clarke paid him a warm tribute. "David has been an incredible servant to the company and an inspiration to thousands of our leaders, whose own careers are flourishing because he played his part in developing many of the programmes which made the Tesco retail team amongst the most admired in the world."

Mr Potts had taken on the job of running the Asian operations only in March. Prior to that, he was in charge of the company's supply chain and had run its UK operations for a decade.

He will be replaced as head of Asia by Trevor Masters, who is in charge of Tesco's business in Europe. Mr Masters' job in Europe will be taken by Gordon Fryett, the head of property.

His long service with the company means Mr Potts has amassed a pension with a £7.73m transfer value and shares worth £6.5m.

Tesco's share price slipped 8 to 398¾p.

ARU boss misses Manchester City job
Michael Cockerill
February 9, 2012

JOHN O'Neill has missed out on one of the biggest jobs in world sport - chief executive of Manchester City.

The Australian Rugby Union boss was told at the start of the month he had been pipped at the post and that the job had gone to a Spaniard, former Barcelona general manager Ferran Soriano.

Manchester City, leading the English Premier League, has been on a global search for a chief executive since Gary Cook was forced to resign in disgrace last September after sending an insensitive email to the cancer-stricken mother of one of the club's players, Nedum Onuoha.

O'Neill was headhunted soon after while in New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup, and was interviewed on Skype by club directors before a key interview with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak just before Christmas.

O'Neill has two years left of his contract with the ARU. He declined to comment last night.

If this is true
"was told at the start of the month he had been pipped at the post and that the job had gone to a Spaniard, former Barcelona general manager Ferran Soriano"
,
then that answers that! And will be really pleased to have an experienced exec on the helm to take city to a top platform if its true.

Re: Look at this re: new chief executive

Age must have been a factor in the decision. Both seem like suitable candidates but makes sense to go with a 44 year old over a 60 year old.
