Pretty sure I read they own most of the USA ( and our ) debt, that alone makes them a super power. maybe not military wise yet but certainly fiscally.

And some of the metals used in high end electronics too, I think. Africa and North Korea have them.

They don't need to hide what they're doing either - writing off debt doesn't mean a lot to the Chinese economy.

Not quite. About 20% of foreign-held debt, the largest holder at about 1.25 trillion dollars.

Chinese interests bailed Trump out in the past too, I think.

The USA run many scenarios of what would happen if they enter a trade/financial war with China.

They are yet to come up with a winning approach

I work with awmoan from sierra leone who left during the civil war, and has been here for years.

She went back in June for a family went and told how freetown has transformed with chinese investment, apparently they invest in infrstructure and employ locals, and istead of loans leading to debts, they jist insist on a share of the profits for a fixed time,

So create infrastructure, which creates jobs and wealth and then take a percentage of the profit from trade not burdoning the african nation with debt interest payments so they also male money to keep.

Sure there is more to it than that tbf, but I heard it was called colonalisation by kindness not by kicking the door in and looting the gaff.
