Chinese Consortium invests $400m in CFG

People are silly talking about a sell off. Man city is a small entity within city football group.
We are getting investment in city football group by the Chinese. The Chinese have been give a 13% stake so they can make that stake grow in a new market.

Abu Dhabi investment Group own 100% of Man city and this deal does not affect man city in any way. The deal affects only the Chinese arm of the city football group.

Think about it, if you had a business in London and wanted to expand into New York the first thing you would do is find an investor in New York and give him a small stake in your business. The investor in New York needs a stake to have motivation to not cock up.

It only seems like a month or so ago that the rags were saying that CITIC were going to invest $2B in them, that was some smokescreen :)

Sky making it up as they go along.

No they are correct

"City Football Group is the owner of a number of football related businesses with global relevance. These include high profile professional football clubs, academies, technical support and marketing companies. CFG’s clubs include Premier League Title Winners 2011-2012 and 2013-14 Manchester City FC, Melbourne City FC of the A-League and MLS Franchise New York City Football Club. CFG is also a minority shareholder in Yokohama F. Marinos of the J-League. The common aim across all clubs is to provide the best possible experience and an unmatched opportunity for fans and communities to participate in, and benefit from, football at both a local and global level"

Manchester City is not a small entity in the CFG it is the flagship of the group.

I can see some huge sponsorship deals for the CFG, Nike will be renegotiated, the Etihad deal too plus
The many big companies in China plus other global companies who want the exposure of China.

Just fcuking wow.

Because they've bought into the City footballing group you'll find they only own 3/4% of Manchester City and the other 10% over the other clubs. So in other words we've played a fucking blinder

I imagine this should make CFG much more attractive to global sponsors, like Nissan. I am also thinking that in order for all this to work the CFG needs to have the best and most successful football club(s) going. Does it mean Pep and Messi are coming?

Does anyone have any thoughts on why the Chinese have done this? For £265m they could probably have bought any one of 15ish clubs outright in the Prem and potentially done another "City" rags to riches story. I know they couldn't invest huge amounts like Mansour did due to FFP but they could have potentially had huge revenue streams if a club became "China's" club.
