Chinese Consortium invests $400m in CFG

I would guess that this opens the doors for a major sponsor maybe for shirt sponsorship, directly benefiting MCFC or maybe the same across the whole group

The standard of Chinese football is very poor, considering the size of the country and the level of interest in the game. I'm sure there are all sorts of strategic/commercial considerations in play between the UAE & China but we've also demonstrated we have a football development model that can be quickly deployed elsewhere.

It's very interesting because it fits with China's new commitment to football coaching. Next year the Chinese Govt will be sending football coaches to Europe as part of their determined drive to become Football's global power (seriously!). Interesting times if you want to be a football coach. Opportunities across China very soon.

You aren't getting this, mate. The Group owns the football club. Therefore they own 13% of the club. Not that i

People need to take this in. The "magic number" of shares is 26%, which means that the owner can effect significant change on the company. This is only half that, and basically, well not meaningless, but not bad news in any way. Effectively the group's capital (think "Money") has gone up by £265 and presumably, we now have major influence in China, because these are the media groups who matter in that region.

FFS Dave that's a bit less then £265m, is that what you call deflation ;)

My overwhelming feeling after reading everything this morning, is I'd quite enjoy getting Nick Harris and Rob Harris in a room and beat them both to death.

My overriding feeling is excitement. I couldn't give a shit what is in the press. Once a few financial experts analyse this the truth will out publicly, but it doesn't matter a jot.

They don't own 13% of Manchester City they own 13% of the group

Manchester City Football Club is a subsidiary of the City Football Group, if you own a percentage of the City Football Group then you own a percentage of it's subsidiaries too. The Chinese own 13% of the City Football Group, which means they also own a percentage of Manchester City Football Club, and New York City Football Club, and Melbourne City Football Club, and Yokohama City Football Club.

This is what I was trying to say obviously I did it quite badly

Correct. A lot of people don't seem to be getting this. But it doesn't affect is in any way negatively because the Shares were ADDITIONAL shares, often called a "Rights Issue". So the whole group is now £265 million richer ("capital") and has some serious allies in the far east. These guys can't make major decisions on behalf of the CFG.

Some people keep saying this but it's not correct.

Sheikh Mansour owns 100% of ADUG, which used to own 100% of CFG, which in turn owned 100% of City. After today's deal, Sheikh Mansour still owns 100% of ADUG but ADUG now only owns 87% of CFG, which still owns 100% of MCFC. In practical terms it means little, as you need to own more than 25% to be able to really influence things.

Originally, when ADUG bought in, they only bought 90% of the shares, leaving Thaksin with 10%. However that level of shareholding (90%) allowed them to force the sale of the minority stake when Thaksin got a bit toxic. 87% doesn't allow them to force a sale of the minority stake.

This is what I was trying to say hahaha just could not word it properly. In the grand scheme of things 13% is nothing compared to being big in far east asia.

It's interesting that none of our ITKs even had a sniff of this

It has been kept under wraps pretty well, but don't know if you remember this from the Pogba thread over summer:

At 19.55 a full police escort, 6 motorbikes, about 3 Merc people carriers and 2 Merc saloons, and a couple of police vans closed the roundabout off, came off the Mancunian Way from Salford and headed down the Parkway towards the airport.

Now I know Taz's Angels are in town, but this was the kind of security you only see for Royalty or Sebb Blatter. I had no idea who it was, but thought I wonder if it was the Sheikh. It definitely came from the Salford side, so maybe whoever it was had been staying in the Lowry?

Maybe one of the plane spotters could check if there was any flights to Abu Dhabi left after 8.30?

It came from Albert Sq direction turning right onto Peter street then left onto Deansgate heading towards Chester Rd roundabout , One on the cars ( without blackout windows ) had blokes in from somewhere in Asia

Everyone assumed it was related to Pogba, but someone on here PM'd this at the time:

Hey Ric, we had a "political delegate" from a very interested country come over today hence the massive security... Cant say who as this involves City plans further down the lines.

Obviously I'm not claiming to be ITK, but he most certainly is.

How do you know they were additional shares?
